PHUMELELA MEDIA RELEASE

SUBJECT: Phumelela thanks all stakeholders in Highveld and Eastern Cape Racing fraternity

DATE: Thursday 9 May 2019

RELEASED BY: Phumelela Gaming

Phumelela Gaming and Leisure thanks the Highveld and Eastern Cape Racing fraternity for successfully staging race meetings at very short notice.

Yesterday’s Election Day meeting at Turffontein was added to the schedule after the planned meeting at Durbanville was cancelled on Sunday. Similarly, the Eastern Cape staged a race meeting at Fairview on short notice in April when a planned meeting at Flamingo Park was cancelled due to an insufficient number of entries.

Thanks to the trainers, jockeys and owners in both regions, those meetings averaged 11 runners per race.

Of course, the meetings would not have been possible without the grooms, ground staff, stipes, and the other role players, who stood to be counted when called on. This is particularly true for all those staff members who agreed to work on Election Day yesterday.

Phumelela thanks every single one who contributed to the successful staging of these two race days.

Last, but by no means least, Phumelela thanks the betting public who supported the race meetings.

Thanks to their enthusiasm for the sport of racing, betting turnovers on yesterday’s Turffontein meeting exceeded expectations.

The support from the punters is reflected in the various pools, where the Pick 6 pool reached R1,198,465.48. The Place Accumulator pool was just shy of the R1-million mark while the Jackpot-pool peaked at R520,756.81.

“It was a tremendous effort considering the short time frame,” said Rob Scott, Betting Executive at Phumelela.

“I would also like to thank the team at Phumelela and the NHA for their efforts in staging the meeting and even making a free online edition of the official racecard, the ComputaForm, available to the betting public.

“A special thanks must go to the trainers who, together with Phumelela, provided the necessary support including transport to ensure that grooms were afforded the opportunity to cast their vote,” said Scott.

“On both occasions all the role players in the industry ensured that South Africa’s commitment to stage racing every single day, apart from Christmas Day, was honoured.

“The racing communities in the Eastern Cape and the Highveld did us proud in ensuring our international image remains untarnished, and we thank them for that,” said Scott.

After a number of owners in the Western Cape expressed their disappointment at the cancellation of the Durbanville meeting on Election Day, it was decided, after consultation with the board of Kenilworth Racing, to stage a race meeting at the track on Sunday 12 May.

The official racecard for this meeting will be available in TAB and Betting World stores on Friday 10 May and in retail outlets countrywide on Saturday 11 May.

Can you ask Mr Rob Scott, when the local Pick 3s get carried forward to which meeting date is it schedule to go to ie, the last weekend Saturday of the month, first week Sunday of the month or ? This information is never disseminated

Also the the UK Pick 3s carry forwards normally should get carried over to the next day or the day after the next day. I have noticed this has not been the case for the last week or have I missed something.

Thanks.
