MIKE de Kock looks the trainer they will have to beat in the R1-million Gauteng Guineas over 1600m on the Standside track at Turffontein on Saturday and he is very happy with the state of his four runners going into the Grade 2 race which is also the first local leg of the SA Triple Crown - Read More mikedekockracing.com/wp/index.php/2019/0...es-guineas-previews/

Fancy the yankee :-

R4) Noble Secret X (R5) Jet Start X (R7) Nafaayes X (R8) Hawwaam

Both Noble Secret and Jet Start look well in, Nafaayes and Hawwaam appear to be fancied by the trainer, that's good enough for me.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

Race 2 - Miss Sabina 12/10

Very smart debut in a strong field. lost lengths at the start and flew late on. Will love the step up in trip and if not too green, should fight out the finish

Race 4 - Noble Secret 12/10

The big horse loved the step up in trip LTO and maybe has found the right trip. Just never had the speed to go with the classic horses over the shorter trips but there's no questioning his class. Ran great races in all 3 legs of the Triple Crown and then went off the boil this year but he's come back strong now. Gives away weight to lot of contenders but he's the class horse here.

Race 6 - Zouaves 3/1

Fillies Guineas - Blossom 8/1, Vistula 20/1

Wide open Fillies Guineas. Blossom has impressed in her two victories but gets a nightmare draw. But the good ones can win from anywhere - is she as good as mother? we get a chance to see.

I thought Vistula was very impressive in her maiden and then backed it up by running a cracker LTO. She was slightly inconvenienced in the running but still finished well. She should stay the mile and has a great chance here if ridden right and that's the key from her draw. I think she's well overpriced.

Guineas - Hawwaam 3/1(Antepost), saver Vontreo 16/1

Hawwaam takes his first steps to triple crown glory but that's still a dream at this stage. He needs to win here and win well. We know how high MDK rates him - he is thought to be better than Soqrat - Soqrat's only gone and win the Cape Guineas and run 2nd in the LQP.

His turn of foot was remarkable in the Dingaans and though it wasn't the strongest bunch, he won easily. 1600m is only the bottom of his range and he'll be better over further.

Let's hope the Hawwaam in the Dingaans shows up.

Race 2 - Miss Sabina ran on well in strong field on debut and bred for this and further. First time round turn but disappointing if didn't win.
Race 8 - Hawwaam will prefer this cd. Chijmes probably better this shorter and can place.
Race 9 - Royal Italian should be ideally cd suited today. Strong place.

R1 Silver Spectrum
Watch the canter ew chance if fit

R2 What A Thrill
Banker in bipot

R3 Satin Slipper
pa banker good ew chance

R4 Wondrous Climber been a revelation and winning in hand

R5 Sunshine Silk been consistent could score

R6 Pilou is over priced

R7 I like the Three Troika results so Storm Destiny and Matchett's Running Brave and Scent Of Evening if you going wide which should be the case

R8 Barahim to win from Against The Grain with Chjimes and Approach Control for quartets

R10 Drop Kick could score for an inform yard

Guineas Day :woohoo: :woohoo: Thoughts .....

R2: Miss Sabina very short in the betting, but deserves top spot on the boards; 1400 might be a touch sharp, but the competition seems nothing to write home about; I prefer Tehuano for 2nd ahead of What a Thrill; Igwinya may still improve and could be the dark horse from pole position

R3: On form Satin Slipper the standout - less than 5 lengths behind Chitengo and I Like It, who both take their chances in the Fillies Guineas today; question mark about the break, but I think her class will pull her through here; danger imo is Tuscan Light who is steadily improving with Undiscovered Gem third best

R4: Noble Secret best in (just) and should prove the one to beat; Wonderous Climber keeps on improving, but ratings suggest he should be held by NS; Highlander very consistent (worse than 4th only once in his last 10 starts) and weighted to give WC a real go today; I think Ali Bon Dubai has a tough task (and is using this as a prep), so roughies worth considering could be Liege (especially if it turns up soft) and Dromedaris (looks well in with ABD on collateral form against Odd Rob over this track and trip)

R5: Another race at set weights, which should make it easier to predict; Jet Start well clear on ratings, but winning over 2000 on the Inside Track a different proposition than 2400 on the Stand Side, so I prefer the chances of proven stayers Sunshine Silk and Arte; Parisienne Chic seems held by SS and had an off day last time, but she has been pretty consistent lately and is one to include in trifectas and quartets - especially if it is wet - her record in the wet reads 5 runs for 3 wins and a second ...

R6: Very competitive Wolf Power Handicap - can't really split those in the betting and all need inclusion in the P6; even Unagi has never won on this track, but on his run in the Charity Mile behind Coral Fever, does not entirely rule him out; interesting here is that in the Computaform, the comment for Puget Sound is that he will 'need the run', but Matthew seemed pretty confident on USO

R7: The Fillies Guineas where Nafaayes looks the right one, but Ronnie's Candy surely not to be ignored at best; those two stand out a little bit from me; Celtic Sea I think better over less ground, and the others all seem held, but many have place credentials

R8: I think the de Kock stable will win; Hawwaam ticks many boxes, but he has not proven himself in soft conditions, so if it does turn up soft, Barahin could give him a real go; the others are running for the places imo

R9: Interesting handicap to close the P6; Dhabyaan in form and deserving favorite; others with chances Big Voice Jack and Aurora Astralis; roughies to consider imo are Red Rock - tries further and takes a big drop in the ratings, and Manitoba, who has consistent recent form.

R10: Have a beer (or a Kit-Kat)

Enjoy B)
