There are some positives with barrier trials:
1. Horses gain experience by going around the bend [Greyville].Their run here can be an indicator for their next run[especially if they were running green or battled to take the bend]
2.Before barrier trials ,the comment "will need the run" should change after their first barrier trial run.
3.Barrier trials should form part of the development process for the horse as it is more of an educational run than anything else[in my view].
The rule of horses running in barrier trials is an operator policy and as such Jockeys should be compensated for their rides otherwise it would be substantively unfair to the jockeys.
The above is just my view on the topic, thanks.

Here we go again, i now feel we should cut our losses
My trainer says just an extra pain and expenses for no real gain and a delay to get a horse to the track.
I think the concept and idea was originally well intented but never was followed through properly and the fine to trainer was unfair IMO

my only gripe is after all this time GALLOP still lists Scottsville BT with the same abbreviation as a normal race at Scottsville.
They should have used Work riders in the BT'

Waste of time and money. Racing is in dire straits. Money could be far better spent.
