Saw that,Sylvester.

No clear reason given, although word is that Cape racing "over their budget", whatever that means.

Michel Nairac has also allegedly been quoted as saying that, "Cape racing is a burden to Gold Circle",

From 2007 stats report National Gambling Board:

GGR = Gross Gambling Revenue (the rand value of the gross win of an operator i.e. turnover less winnings paid to players)

41% Gauteng
18% W Cape
17% KZN
8% E Cape

Total R13,520 billion

Wish Mr Nairac would expand on (alleged) quote.

I love Cape racing! Some obsticles, but nonetheless.... At the moment the less they race in CT the more I win by not playing. Hope we can get more money into Cape Racing. I am sure my luck will change as soon as I win on the July....!!

I hope Niarac did not say Cape Town is a burden.A good CEO would like a good General marshall his troops and try to turn it around. The betting turnover suffers because CT races on a Tuesday and often on a Sunday.
Why? because if Durban raced on those days their turnover would be down.
Hawkins who I rate as knowledgable has not been seen in Cape Town except to see his horse run.
What qualified Nairac to be the CEO of an operation the size of GC
If I remember all he ever did was act as a bloodstock agent selling horses to Mauritius.Did he ever run a business?

I don't think there is much difference between the turnovers. I posted that near the top. I would really like to see how much of a burden. Hated the merger from day 1.
