The Highs & Lows Of Punting In South Africa

I experienced two things today which starkly highlight the manner in which our sport is run:

Firstly - the good news :

I got a call from Interbet to invite me to the Met. Apparently they have booked a handful of tables in one of the enclosures to which they are inviting some of their clients.

I sadly (but with thanks) declined this kind invitation as I have already committed to another activity and felt obliged not to withdraw in favour of the Met.

A little later, somewhat motivated by this PR action, I thought I would tickle up a few nags in the UK.

The not so good news :

I was absolutely gobsmacked to see that the operator had simply hijacked the international channel feed to broadcast live a draw event that they were staging at the Waterfront.

Tough luck to anyone wanting a bet on the UK events and actually expecting to see their fancies run. Not while their private wankfest was on.

Other than to allow Clyde Basel yet another stab at the buffet table what exactly did this action achieve for the betting market? It got me to log off.

Clearly the operator has no pressing need for turnover.

When this pay per view Tellytrack story emerged, wasn't the clean feed to International one of the drawcards?

yes tellytrack.com carried uninterupted coverage of the UK racing...

....and it is for reasons like this that I refuse to be a paid subscriber....the streaming and audio feed both local and international is too slow(not real time) for starters....not even the free audio which unlike Hong Kong at a distance away from us is in a few seconds out of sinc with our local TT pictures on DSTV.....our feed is 30-40 sec out.....race closed before the commentary even starts....even results available as horses cross the line....pathetic.....world class..... my arse......and now this.... :S

Mr H - I believe I can help you with this problem:

As Muhtiman correctly states - the feed is habitually 30-40 seconds 'in arrear' so 'live' it most certainly is not and probably never will be. (Tellytrack fanboys please note)

What also happens is related to what I suspect is faulty 'buffering'. Sometimes the feed will just inexplicably revert to a point w-a-y earlier in the afternoon or evening. If you click on 'live' it will advance to 'live' (not actually live but you get my drift) and bring you back to as 'live' as you are ever going to get. The 'live' legend will also display in red.

Often I find myself re-watching a race that I have already seen earlier in the day until I click on the tool to advance the feed back to what Tellytrack misrepresents as 'live'. You can take short odds that the feed they watch is, in fact, live.

We peasants must just put up with whatever they choose to feed us.

Bob,

As I access the feed via Interbet I cannot re-connect using your method unless I have struck a bet in the previous 25 minutes.

Ja, Interbet and WSB are depending on what is sent through to them from TT

And probably didn’t even know the Met Draw was being screened

.....would you object to editing your comment to read 'never know'. That's usually been my experience when I have called them to query a malfunction. Lol.

.....it is a shame that a person of your great punting prowess has together with several others of your ilk been thrown in with the rest of us small fish...I have heard great things ...and even greater things written about you and your punting powers.... by even Robert Bloomburg.....once in writing referring to you as a very big game fish....really what the operators should be asking....how do we please these fish....both big and small..... ;)
