Broadcast Rights - How do they work?

I am wondering if the foreign countries that take our racing have any sort of non-delivery clause in their contracts? We see races cut by 1/3 or more on the Highveld due to the stubborn and illogical approach to start racing as late as possible in summer - Does this aid the foreign concerns? Do they want to see pictures of rain storms without the prospect of a bet? I personally seldom bother with foreign bets so if there is a rained-out meeting I do not become compulsive and back in the UK or any other jurisdiction -
I do not understand the logic of these late starts unless it is an actuarial decision to increase profit by not paying out stakes on those abandoned races.
I wonder why the RA has not put its foot down and insisted on earlier starts in summer so that members can get runs for their horses.

Mr H you are a lot wiser than asking the question why the RA dont challenge Phumelela. A child should never challenge its superiors

I am one of those people that even when I know the truth I still believe that true Racing people will revolt against the norm - Silly I know, but put the statement out there and maybe those that own to race decide to take a stance and force their Association to act on their behalf

I would classify that as being a hopeless romantic ;)

Mr H,

The answer to your question is simple.

No-one can control the weather. No right minded commercial enterprise would agree to be penalised for failure to broadcast races because the weather prohibited racing.

The weather has always been a factor and will remain a factor. It can thunder and rain at any time and lately its been extraordinarily bad.

Stakes are determined a year in advance. You can accept that stakes lost in a year due to racing being cancelled because of the weather is not carried forward to the next year. I agree with OTA. Ask the racing association. Mr Werner is now a director of this organisation. He needs to hold his head up high. He needs to show that he is not like the other YES men. Send an email to him and ask him to answer all your questions.

@jurgs again a dreamer thinking that the good will come out if we wait long enough. Werners has been there long enough, from the outside I see little to no change.
