Bolt's 400m would be faster than Wayde's. Besides, the MET is closer to a Mo Farah than a Bolt? no?

Not true
The current men's world record is held by Wayde van Niekerk, with a time of 43.03 seconds; van Niekerk is also the reigning world and Olympic champion. The world indoor record holder is Kerron Clement, in 44.57 seconds. The current women's world record is held by Marita Koch, with a time of 47.60 seconds.

Unbelievable. Are you for real? Instead of celebrating South African heroes, you are belittling them

Bolt is a great friend of Wayde and I remember he had such praise for hin after he broke the record
One person I know who will step up, and he’s been doing good work is Van Niekerk. He’s shown that he really wants to take my place. He’s been dominating in all events – I feel like if he runs the 800, he’d probably do well also! So, he’s the one to look out for.
“You guys know me over the years – I never back down from a challenge. I think that’s one of the most disappointing things of my career, that he (Van Niekerk) came along at this late stage and I could never compete against him. I think he is one of the best hands down, right now.”
Bolt has had a close-up view of Van Niekerk in the last few seasons as the Olympic 400m champion has practised with him in Kingston, Jamaica.

“He is really confident and he really works hard – I’ve see him train because he has come to Jamaica and train,” the eight-time Olympic champion Bolt said.
“For me, I’m never afraid, I live for competition. But it’s too late, it’s at the end of my career. So, we’ll never know what can happen!”
Bolt will take part in the 100m in Monaco on Friday, where he will come up against a South African in Olympic finalist Akani Simbine, who has the quickest season’s best in the field of 9.92.
Bolt has been far from his best this year, with a fastest time of 10.03 in 2017.
Van Niekerk will run in the 400m, while Caster Semenya is up in the 800m.

If i can afford it I will surely take my kids (oldest 2 are good long distant athletes) to the Sunmet ....Not for the racing but to see the greatest athlete of all time and the fastest human ever ( maybe forever) in real life !!!!
Brilliant initiative , would love to see Wayde also attend!

Lionel, no belittle, putting into perspective. I.E. Which horse was SAF's best? put next to Frankel. Bolt is top of the WORLD. Wayde hasn't achieved same (yet).
We are fortunate to be having Bolt - let's make the most of it to help highlight racing and athleticism (equine)?

Don, again your comparisons are ludicrous. What you are trying to say is that Bolt is in a different class to Wayde. Wayde hasn't achieved yet what Bolt has only because Wayde is still new on the scene.
If you were to merit rate the 2 of them, they would be very closely matched. Remember that it was Bolt that didn't want to race Wayde at the 200m or the proposed 300m.
And please don't get me wrong. I am a HUGE Bolt fan.

The lack of general public appeal imo is due to the fact that racing is equated with gambling - gambling being negatively perceived by many outsiders, as a negative - destructive force. To outsiders they picture dingy tote dens filled with the smell of stale smoke and alcohol - dirty, unshaven and unkempt people bent over tables studying pieces of paper, looking for the next good thing.
For me racing is about the prowess of the horse - the greats. While maybe not the greatest of race horses - Pocket Power for me was a horse with the X-Factor and the talent - enough for the local races in SA. There are those others that inspire , Frankel, Black Caviar, winx and the champions of old.
What about the match race between Sea Biscuit and War Admiral - with the crowd in a frenzy, running all over the inside track to try and get a glimpse of the horses, Secretariat - triple crown winner - there are stories and talent behind all of these.
The industry should focus on the athlete's (horses) and their stories , Where was the coverage in public of Run Rhino Run romping home by 21 odd lengths, were is the media coverage of our champions, their stories and their exploits. On the track there are horses whose exploits match and rival those of Mr Bolt - what we need to do is tell these stories, and celebrate our champions more widely. Personalize the industry around horses, and not around gambling - Horse Racing is just another form of gambling, but no other form of gambling is horse racing.
Let's get Mr Bolt to race against Run Rhino Run

At this stage in his career, Wayde has achieved everything, and is looking to go even further!
In 2016 he became the first, and to date, only, sprinter in history to have run the 100 m in under 10 seconds, the 200 m in under 20 seconds and the 400 m in under 44 seconds.[2] In 2017, after a 30.81 seconds victory in the seldom-run 300 m distance, breaking Michael Johnson’s world best time of 30.85 that was set since 2000, he became the only sprinter in history to have run sub-10, sub-20, sub-31 and sub-44 performances at 100 m, 200 m, 300 m and 400 m respectively.[3] - history includes Mr Bolt.
And let's not forget Simbine either.
The appeal of Bolt is the aura of being unbeatable, try as you may and try still - but you'll never get a sniff at beating him - Wayde still has to develop that aura - he has too hold of all comers - before he can get the recognition that Bolt has deservedly earned -- I have a sense that Wayde could quite well retire with the same aura and prestige that Bolt has.

now see what debate this Bolt has caused? imagine if we could do this in general public, by general public, about our equine runners in the MET. AIMING FOR THAT!!! Would like for the horses to be public information so general that ANYONE can debate their merit in the race...!
