MY first July winner was in 1989, Right Prerogative. Millard, liked the jockey combination, put R200 win on it, had to wait for the results, since the race was postponed to a week day, could not go to the tote,
2003 i backed Dynasty
2006 i backed Eyeofthetiger
in 2007 (the july was 07/07/2007) and the omen was that a horse no. 7 will win the 7th race, and that proved true, had all doubles with it, won over 21K, what a party after that

2010 i predicted that Bold Silvano will finish in front of stable companion, and reverse the Greyville 1900 result.

2012 this was my best July winner, I had told all and sundry about a month ago that Pomodoro will win the July.......my theory was based on the fact that it had run close to slumdogmillionaire, and had slumdogmillionaire entered for the july what its odds would have been.......so the odds of 40/1 was to great , to finish in the first 4 was over R5, so i went for it..., the fact that Striker was booked to ride it and the 20 draw, I Knew how it would be ridden, and just as i thought it happened, i won over 20K.

last year i went for Marineresco, having brushed the conglomerate completly.. considering the omen was ( Pomodoro won from 20 draw, no. 14 ridden by Striker.........(Conglomerate won from 20 draw, no.14, ridden by Striker, and in both instances G van Niekerk was the jockey that rode the 2nd horse...... , my loosing P6 tickets from last year.......attached

Lovely story to tell. 2 years ago friends of mine were invited to July . My good friend who is not really a punter asked me who i liked for the July. I said he could banker Power King and take a chance I really liked it strong . He took a R400 percentage of the P6 and called me later to say that he had won 180 k . Now that is real special man much needed for his family and they left this morning for the july as its a highlight of the year for them now . cheers

My first recollection was when I was a small kid and picked Yatagan over Elevation.
I remember well wanting Jamaican Music to win after the previous years antics.
My first actual bet was on Jamaican Rumba a few years later.
Went on a winning spree with Right prerogative , illustrador, flaming rock , Spanish galliard ,Dancing Duel and then ended with that after I had Pas de quoi who should have won.
Had El PIcha to do the double then did not bet for the next 10 years or so but Pocket power took my interest and had a bet.
Next winner for me was Legislate, unfortunately backed the Conglomerate the wrong year :) and only had him for the place last year.

Ipe Tombe - a client of mine said he heard it couldn't lose (he apparently had inside information)
Power King - Shaheen Shaw was very bullish on tellytrack , I went with him .

only winners came from others choices .

hope it changes this year with Horizon

I find this interesting as you are one of many. If this may be because they changed the rules or conditions. We are not stupid people so the fact that we do our homework find the right horse - so we think only to find something else come spook us, then we say how the hell did this win.

2012 Pomodoro P.Strydom S Tarry

Had R40EW and tipped it to my wifes's family .....one uncle banged it R5000 at SP and did not give me a chop

2009 Big City Life G. Cheyne G.Kotzen

Started preaching this one to win the July after he won the Cape Derby did not have to back it as an acquaintance of mine gave me a very big chop. He backed everything he could into this
his bookies owed him plenty after the race.

2003 Dynasty R Fradd D Kannemeyer

Was in Tokyo when this won placed bet online from the hotel business centre that had free internet then went to hotel room and phoned for commentary.....my phone bill for the evening was half my winnings for the day :S

1997 Super Quality M Roberts DE Ferraris

Was on course in the Edgars marquee sat at table 6 and horse was no 6 ....was up on the day as I backed 1st race winner at 100/1 Erico Verdonese trained and he never had a zak on it....was the travelling companion for his other winner on the day owned by Des Renou Jnr...so had a full go on Muis Roberts 1st July winner :woohoo:

1989 Right Prerogative M Sutherland TM Millard

Was also on course mud all over the show...earlier races were cancelled so stuck my whole baby on it.....I was told I was on the wrong one and Right Prerogative should not have been in the race. :S

1986 Occult B Leisher TM Millard

Stayed in the same hotel as the whole Leisher crew.....they preached this all the way to the free hotel bus shuttle and there was no space on it for me to get to the course....Did not want to spring for a taxi.....so I walked to the tote in my pale blue suit near the beach front and stood in the queue for eternity put everything I had on it.... then went back to the hotel and raided the minibar .....woke up the next day a winner......

1974 Riboville M Schoeman G Azzie

Was at Boksburg Ice rink for the day..... my mom went to the local course .....I gave her my pocket money to back my lucky number 13..... :P

1973 Yataghan B Hayden SC Laird

.....my very Ist July bet at the tender age of 13....also put all my pocket money on.....was a stable lad(groom) in the school holidays at 20 Doncaster Road Newmarket Alberton.....dont know why this horse appealed to me.....worked with these animals every day.... and did not know what made them tick..... ;)
