FLAMINGO PARK FACILITIES

Watching the racing from Kimberley, I have never seen spectators at the track, and looking at the aerial picture of it I cant see a grandstand. Has anyone been there

I been their Kosbar
Yes , a grandstand with space for around 50+ people and a lounge that can accommodate about the same amount of people. Don't know of anybody that ever attended that said they didn't love it. Even most presenters say the best place to present is at flamingo. Will take some photos Monday and send to Bob to post

Just like all SA racecourses,Kimberley used to get spectators.
I worked for a bookmaker on the course whilst I was doing National service. There used to be between 6 and 8 of them.Hard to believe, but there was decent money around on Kimberley racecourse 30 years ago.
Facilities have been upgraded since I was last there, but there has always been a smallish grand stand.

The last and only time I attended Kimberley must have been, eish, 25 years ago. It was before corporatisation, they had the old sand and I think it was known as Griqualand West racing club. There was a smallish stand then. At that time the best horse by far to come out of Kimberley was that filly, I think she was a filly, named after a town in Ireland. She won the TAB OFS. Today, Talktothestars holds that mantle.

The training methods you allure to were also correct as stated and was on a farm near Odendaalsrus.....near welkom!.....Was very close to the horse but that's a story for another day........ At one time both Strydom and Lloyd said it was the best horse they had ever ridden.......
If I am not mistaken Dennis Cason trains from that farm now, yes just outside Welkom.
Dennis used to be a bookmaker in Odendaalsrus and the De Bruins punted with him, they pulled many a big coup, used to go to the tattersalls in OD

I'm sure you are thinking of SLIGO BAY - He was a gelding - I remember Miller raiding on a Saturday and winning with him and another who was at 33-1 or better - Sligo was a proper sprinter that could race with any grass horse in the country - I think he was at least a 9 time winner
