Cape Town Racing

I am of the opinion that this centre has more serious problems than those in charge
believe to be the case
Once again today the entries have been re-opened due to the paucity of nominations
More worrying as the small fields and the effect on the "small Jockeys' and small trainers
The fields are now so small that any jockey not working for one of the big 6 yards cannot
get enough rides to survive
For the trainers the problem is that due to the drought the track is very hard and horses have to be protected{their legs}
When you a small number and they need to be rested you then have no runners available
I wonder if our stats expert Sylvester is able to give the following fot the top 6 stables in the 3 major centres i.e Gauteng Kzn and CT
Number of runners
Numbers of winners
Percentages of both

what concerns me is that they only appear to have racing on a weekend these days.
the midweek CPT racing seems to be virtually non existent.
what is the horse population in CPT ? how big are the strings of the Big Boys an Girls in CPT ?

8 years 3 months agoI find it odd that with so little racing , and apparent lack of gallops, that they are not raiding Gauteng in force. Must be more profitable being expensive livery yards than I thoughtElvisisKing wrote: what concerns me is that they only appear to have racing on a weekend these days.

Its a bit of a mess . Durbanville being upgraded has also had an impact. The other day I had a first timer that had to come off the track straight onto the grass without a gallop. I have also got a filly that has been ready for 6 weeks she to is going to have to go straight onto the course without a gallop . This all costs money . Another conundrum take a chance and race her on the hard ground or wait.

Candice Bass, Ramsden, Kotzen an Snaith must have at least 100 - 150 horses EACH.
Today's racing, candice 4 runners, kotzen 3, snaith 4, Joey 6, now 5 runners.
They can't even field a 9 race card. I DO understand that the going must be bloody hard right now with NO Cape Town rain in last 4 months.
It's a case of feed, feed, feed, pay, pay .......and maybe in winter / rainy season you'll get a run.

The current hard surface in Cape Town is still like a mattress compared to that experienced in the Gauteng winter.

Vet Bills are expensive , not worth taking a chance .
Trainers comments on 1st timers today-
JOEY RAMSDEN
Race 1 – DYNASTY’S BLOSSOM (5): Trainer could not be contacted.
GREG ENNION
Race 1 – EVIE’S LIGHT (6): A very nice filly but will probably need the run.
MIKE ROBINSON
Race 1 – LIVE IT UP (
: Has not had a grass gallop so will need the run and the experience.
JONO SNAITH FOR JUSTIN SNAITH
Race 2 – CÉST LA VIE (7): Trainers have no access to grass in Cape Town at the moment so this horse should therefore need this first run immensely. You can expect huge improvement next time out with the benefit of this gallop and he could be one to follow.
BRETT CRAWFORD
Race 3 – SPENDING SPREE (10): Trainer could not be contacted.
ADAM MARCUS
Race 3 – SUPERSLEW (11): She is a lovely filly but I expect her to run green and be in need of this experience.

Cape Town, South Africa has been struck by severe drought – and now residents have just 100 days of water left. The local government is asking citizens to conserve, while fire fighters are using sea water to battle two nearby wildfires. According to University of Cape Town Environmental and Geographical Sciences lecturer Kevin Winter, “We can’t see any rain on the horizon,” Winter notes. “ And right now, in terms of dam storage levels, we’re probably approaching the ‘100 days left of storage.’”
