Is it Grant's 1st ride? You right HH, taking around 2's is way too short especially with him aboard. All the best.

It is Grant's first race ride, and I can only imagine that the thinking is that the horse led from start to finish when he won at Scottsville last time and that the kid only has to hop him out and aim him in the right direction. Whether it will turn out as simple as that is another matter, but I guess that they reckon taking 4 kgs off the horse's back will offset any possible disadvantage his rider may suffer should the race come down to a tight finish.

Just speculation, of course, but these free-striding frontrunners look the right kind of mount for claiming apprentices, as long as it's a horse that basically runs straight and - with all due respect - does the bulk of the work all by himself.

HH are you saying you had no knowledge that the kid was going to ride your horse?I don't buy that for 1 second!

What's the point of putting the -4 on if he doesn't get to the front.Surely the instructions would be get to the front @ all costs and then hope he keeps rolling. The -4 (of a rider having his 1st ride) is negated by trying to come from off them, especially with a tail wind.Don't wish you bad luck mate, but that booking looked too 'clever' and ultimately cost the horse the race imo.

HH, it was the boys first ride, and you are critical.

Not nice, the boy did his best!

Blame Kotzen for the rider engagement, not the jockey.

Maybe next time ask him to confirm the jockey engagement with you before finalising it.
