Scotsville getting a dressing over and one never knows anything about grass racing at Greyville. Was there on Friday during the day and saw patches of grass getting planted here and there and it did not look good. With the recent rain it will not hold up at ALL.

You do not get straight answers regarding the grass tracks because nobody wants to be accountable for the ongoing shocking situation.
Does it affect the prep of KZN horses? Most definitely. ...
Does it affect some of the yards? Definitely. .....there is no poly training track at Ashburton
Does it affect KZN racing? Ask how many people are at poly racing.....
I was at Greyville on Sunday and agree with the last 2 races being cancelled as the grass pull up area was very dangerous for the horses. What never fails to amaze me is that it gets treated like a surprise that this situation would happen.......

The proposal by some is to convert Greyville to poly completely makes sense in the short term but has major repercussions...
This is my opinion would signal the death of KZN racing unless another turf track was constructed for the July. The July will never be run on the poly and if it is then the field would be the equivalent of a MR88 Handicap with the attendance & support of a mid-week meeting.
I agree with having a poly track in KZN except it should be moved to Shongweni and be a 2800m course and a poly training track should be installed at Ashburton immediately. Greyville can then be split into two grass tracks which are opened into one for major race days.
Further inaction on a viable solution is just going to cost KZN racing in the long term.

Not saying I know the answer, but I have heard that the shadow caused by the Tote board has been blamed (among other things) for the problems with the grass in the straight, but surely the tote board (and it's shadow) has been around for donkeys years ?

F...all will happen T and these problems will continue year in and year out. Already some trainers have been told to move (by owners) and branch out into others centres or they will lose support. To have babies sitting in their stables for 2 to 3 months every year waiting for the grass/program/acceptances/draws/etc who can afford that ? GC are happy to chase owners away, they have the numbers/soccer/July.

The problems with the tracks is Clairwood Closing, and not enough tracks to cope
imo the poly was put in to handle the increase workload not to stop meetings being lost to the weather and its backfired with the poor quality of the racing surface(Grass)
