Add Zechner to the list. Makes 7 for the season. LESS and LESS chances for the other jocks.

Yeni 1142
munger 1025
Fortune 1000
JP 980
zackey 935

Zechner a multi millionaire with Abashiri!!!! Their riding fees alone takes them close to 2 bar, excluding their commission

Naresh that would mean just under 2k a ride riding fees...that's not even close :) added to that is that all 7 are traveling jocks and they have to cover their own flights car hire etc...
Give everything but up!

Jockeys earn a lot less money than many other sportspersons,ie Footballers, Golfers, Tennis players, Cricketers etc and have a far more dangerous job, I can't think of how many other professions require a minimum 5 year apprenticeship where one has to leave home and family at a school going age to qualify for a job that has no guarantee of success or even that you would be able to make a living out of it and then on top of that once you do qualify, should you transgress the rules, the powers that be reserve the right to suspend you for a period of time that they deem fit and in so doing deprive you of earning an income or maybe impose a fine (whether this is a "necessary evil" or not is an argument for another thread) but the general consensus that Jocks are overpaid is grossly overstated and way off the mark..
It is a high risk occupation not only due to the dangers of injury but to dedicate 5 years at the academy to qualify for a profession where only a miniscule % are successful with the vast majority having to eventually move on and try start another career whilst those who do stick it out and qualify then have to work 6 or 7 days a week in order to get rides and start to earn an income, with no guarantee,so in an extremely competitive industry those very few that actually make a go of it against all odds and become successful I say good luck to them and if they can remain injury free and earn themselves good money there is no way that anyone can tell me that they don't deserve it or that they have not earned that right ...

R751.5 Gross (after agents 10%) still ensures a pretty high standard of living.

With an agent (i can guarantee this) a jockey can ride 1000 races a year. ill take on any jockey to prove this.

What he/she needs is

good attitude
good ears
trust

Then after expenses (flights and others) they should be in the region of R350k to R400k

now divide that by 12 months thats nett R30k a month

SO unless i am now informed that due to me living abroad for so long um out of touch and R30k a month is not a lot then i think the 5 years apprenticeship does reap rewards.

just my opinion.
