Horse yet to be tested.Definitely above average I would say,but is he worthy of the brand 'Champ' we will have to wait and see.Find it strange how owners always sell horses with a nice looking future! Are they just in it for the money? Me? I'd be willing him on if he was my boy...goooo get that Gr1s ect. Surely owners live for that rush aswell

They may have kept a shear in the horse still.

Imo the only winner here is the seller. If that is the price, for a 3/4 time winner from PE, I can't see the horse, at this point be worth that money!

Good luck to the buyer though!

Very exciting prospect but there are some equally exciting others around. Expensive gamble and in some years I would have been confident that, based on what I have seen, that he could be very special. This season though, have seen a few that really look good ,and also progressive ,so I'm not sure he will end up on top of the heap, even though I was " wow" at his performance last time.
Good luck to the owners though and hope he turns out to be the 1 in decade horse for them.

I must say I get what Heinrich is saying. Rcr is also subject to similar bids and my view is that it's all very well to take the money but fast forward to 5 years down the line.sellers would have gone to the sales bought a whole lot of new horses and blown most of the cash.new horses would probably be duds and end result is no cash and no champion. Keep the horse and maybe you reach the holy grail. As my son says like winning the lottery of 10 bar and spending it all on more tickets

This owner is definitely a winner with the money he has he can even send the horse overseas and win a couplr of dubai handicaps and make some moola that way. Even of the horse doesnt win a group1 in SA i feel the sellers did a right thing and so the buyer.

Jim & Heinrich, i do not agree with your logic.I think till YOU personally own the horse & YOU are then personally made the 7 figure offer only then do you realize what big money you've been offered, & what a difference it will make to have a few bob in the bank. Never forget a horse can do a tendon or worse the very next day & be worth absolutely zip.

No bragging rights here but let me tell u OUR story. TEN years ago now Frodo, ( Frodo chose the horse at the sales ) myself & 1 other buys a 50,000 filly. wins its 1st two starts.
Later wins Gr2.
Seven figure offer made. we turn it down.
Then wins Gr1 on Durban July day
Second ( better ) seven figure offer made .......... answer, where do we sign ? yes we did sign.

any regrets NO NO NO

while we will NEVER EVER own a filly like her again, the small time owner has to be realistic in life, & where else could we have won that sort of money in S.A. ( that is providing u do WILL ALL the big races you would have contested.

Just bye the bye, I personally know of 3 Joburg horses where offers were made for 1 bar plus in each case. all for small time owners / syndicates

none of them sold - all thought their horses were worth MUCH more..... the result, i think 2 of them have never won again - if so won hardly anything in stakes.

3rd horse sold for 250,000 about 9 months later cause the horse went off the boil after winning a couple of juvenile races.

moral of the story a MILLION in the hand is worth TWO in the bush !

in my opinion

theres also been horses who have been sold and have not even won a race with the new owners

I think there is a horse like that currently running in KZN at the moment

The money he's been sold for he would have to win the 8 or 9 Grade 1 Sprints to match

Or the July and the Met

No brainer
