It's all but forgtten about in Scotland, unlike the 2011 World Cup when the Bryce Lawrence episode dragged on for 6 months by Bok fans and media. We are now talking about the weather again

So Joubert made a mistake, big deal.
This will not be the first time or the last time a referee makes a mistake as they are human beings and fallible like all of us.
I am more concerned with referees making strings of mistakes and multiple errors each time they blow a match as this shows incompetence that cannot and should not be tolerated at higher levels of competition.
Clear bias is another major evil that should be rooted out by getting rid of repeat offenders.
Making a mistake should not force such an outcry as it happens frequently in matches, the pity here was the timing of the event.
Lets not forget that the Scots had the line out and stuffed it up so they had the outcome in their own hands. As human beings we love to have an excuse for failure and the easiest out is always to blame the ref.
Joubert is still one of the best refs in the world regardless of this incident.

Hey C
Clearly there were a number of errors correctly highlighted and indisputable. My point is not that Craig Joubert does not make mistakes or that he cannot have a bad day like in this example but that he is still one of the better referees overall.
I watch a lot of rugby and other sports and I dare anyone here to point me to a game with no referee mistakes. It happens every single game but in some it is blatant and inexcusable and never addressed.
When you have linesman acting as cover and the infringement happens on the referees blind side and nothing is done, is this the referees fault?
The game is in dire need of a better standard as in the land of the blind one eye is king. This also applies to the rules that leaves too much to interpretation which invariably leads to disputes and arguments about who is at fault.
Think about the tackle rule where the player is supposed to be allowed to place the ball which is rarely honoured by the opposing side and seldom penalised with the tackled player nearly always penalised for hanging on. So much depends on timing with some refs allowing things to go on longer and other blowing earlier.
I don't even want to start on football as the standard is much worse than in rugby.

Football refs are forever making mistakes and the excuse for them is they cannot use technology. Even the cricket umpires are making more mistakes but they have an out in that they can us technology. The incident happened right in front of Joubert that's why there is an outcry. I am not disputing the fact that Joubert is a very good ref, one of the best imo, but he should not be making bad calls like he did in the 2011 final and on like on Sunday
