All Owners/ Trainers beware when retiring a horse!
9 years 10 months ago
So I had a 3 year old Trippi filly called Magical Trip, she had been for leg surgery and had bled durning a training session. We decided to retire her sending off all the correct retirement forms through to the authorities. We gave her to an assistant trainer who is well known for placing retired horses to homes or riding schools etc. It came to our attention that she sold with good intentions this filly to a man in Jhb who posted photos on FB of his daughter sitting on the horse unite happily. Next thing the horse was seen back in full training without any change of ownership papers signed by myself. I called the man involved who said he had sold her to another man for a profit and the other man put her into training. The trainer and I approached the authorities and were told that in a case like this the CEO of the authorities has the last say in matters such as these. So the horse I retired for free will now be racing in a new owners colours in a new training centre without any change of ownership signed by myself. NICE!

Have to assume that this CEO's "last say" is therefore subjective and without regard for any rules (or intent).
It is obvious that the regulation of racing continues to be a joke!
(The question is ..............why are there so few of us that care about that state of affairs!)

I am sure there is many stories about horse trading so basically when you transfer to another person they become the authority for the horses future even as in the case above rather unethical.

Thanks Rob Dave and Bob not only unethical it is strange industry.. Even when you do what is best for the horses person can just change the ownership and allow it to race.. The sooner I'm out the better

Oscar, why not put your message to the MdK stable through their website .....................cannot imagine them racing this horse unless everything is squeaky clean and with the welfare of the horse in mind!
