Gold Circle you have a problem

It is my opinion that Greyville should never again allow 18 runners to participate on the turf. The narrowing of the track to allow a poly surface has resulted in a situation where the "new" track clearly cannot handle 18 horses, particularly if there is a perceived track bias like yesterday with every race saw horses go to the outside en masse. Now for a second think of the implications of a front runner going down.... If either Punta Arenas or Power King fell yesterday it would have been a disaster. In my very humble opinion fields should be restricted to a maximum of 14 runners.

I probably agree it`s not ideal but horses seem to find trouble what ever track they race on..
I`ve seen 4 horse races at newmarket when horses are boxed in.Look at this years Epsom Oaks, loads of bother and unlucky stories.
Chester run the chester Cup on a track half as tight again with bigger fields than yesterday

Bob I agree that smaller fields will not guarantee trouble free runs, however the situation yesterday was dire with many horses not getting runs, interferences aplenty and punters doing their cash because of poor rides/no options for jocks. I get it that its the July but clearly there is too much traffic on the park.

ota is 100 percent correct you cant have 18 horses, maximum 14 ,you cant have luck playing the biggest role in winning big races ..mauritius have a max of 9 I think and our track is similar to theirs ..its no coincidence that the last 2 runnings of the july you have had an objections in both with both been run on the new disimproved track

The "champions season" has irritated me immensely this year. Almost every big meeting there has been issues at the start, poor going at one side of the track and like yesterday's biggest race of the year, just plain issues with the course .
Yes, trouble can happen at any course but it's been consistently poor this KZN season. Getting rid of clairwood might have been done for the right reasons? But Greyville can't be considered a fair track and even Scottsville has a dubious straight course .
The best horses can win anywhere but doing your money because 1/2 the field can't get a run is not doing racing any favours, especially when these are the plums of racing, broadcast to people who you are trying to attract to racing.
Bring on the Cape season, far better for punters and horses.

Would have worked better in fanning them out without that aluminium rail that was in use round the entry to the home strait??

Both tracks are too narrow both with outside bias..
