Co-mingling un-mingled
17 years 1 month ago
Much is touted by P about co-mingling, little is known about the facts although Robert Garner did say bigger pools mean bigger dividends recently. Was that spin or a deliberate attempt to mislead the racing public? it's a fine line indeed.
I'm doing my best to get my head around this cutting edge technology which (according to Phumelela), SA is at the forefront of. We are often told by Phumelela media how well SA ("P") is doing with co-mingling without ever being told specifcally how this process is benefitting local stakes in terms of % of turnover and indeed local racing as a whole.
Time, just about, for some research of this apparantly SA led revolutionary development in global wagering and a couple of quotes to cut a long story short....

BETINTERNET.COM PLC
(“the company” or “betinternet”)
PRELIMINARY RESULTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 29 MAY 2005
Part of our strategy has been to invest in order to develop opportunities in promising new territories. Last year we announced the formation of a joint venture company, Isle of Man Tote Limited, with Phumelela Gold
Enterprises of South Africa. This was created to exploit the opportunities of our Isle of Man-based hub and to provide an international service for South African thoroughbred racing. In due course the venture is intended to host pool betting on a variety of tote activities. Although progress has been slower than anticipated, we have seen the start of an income stream in the period following the end of the financial year.

BETINTERNET.COM PLC
("the company" or "betinternet")
PRELIMINARY RESULTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 28 MAY 2006
During the financial year, we took the decision to dispose of our share in our
joint venture with Phumelela Gold Enterprises. The Company has received little
revenue from this joint venture and there were apparent conflicts of interests
between the two Companies.

Since then, co-mingling has moved on, but are "P" the only ones providing this technology via their Isle of Man Tote Ltd platform which incidently can be accessed from the website.... www.betab.com .
It would appear the technology is actually AMTOTES, the company responsible for the local, SA tote platform which constantly drives people up the wall and across the ceiling. Still you can deposit via credit card into BETAB and punt away into mingled totes via the Isle of Man (the off shore haven you fly over over on route from Manchester to Dublin). They will welcome your business, not turn it away.
However, in contrast to what they would have us believe, P's Isle of Man Tote are not the only ones offering this type of wager, link2bet.com is Betinternet 's (mentioned above) co-mingling arm, all they are doing is giving you the divi from whatever overseas track pool you are betting on. Futhermore, link2bet have the dastardly Internaional Horse Racing Federations hallmark endorsing them. Link2bet are as South African as Yorkshire Pudding or pie and mash.
The clever bit, if you can call it that is the forex conversion. Wow, be knocked out, Neil Armstrong would shit himself with the developments in technology since he was propelled skywards.
My point is this, why bullshit about co-mingling, all anybody needs to know is how it benefits local racing, specifically the stakes pot.
So "P" come clean and stop baffling people with bullshit about technology. If it's good for SA racing, people will embrace it, if it isn't, it will fall on its arse. In the case of latter, will the proudly SA flag be dropped by the so called pioneers...?
You bet it will, in whichever currency you like.

Bottomline - is THE Bottomline = HOW much is returned to 'Stakes' in SA?
A very simple question, that can be answered very simply - no?
So P, what is it?

Racing channel scrapped
RACING World, the 'bonus' Racing UK channel covering live action at the major US tracks, has been scrapped after a little more than two years.
Tiny audience figures and a failure to promote significant levels of "co-mingled" betting prompted the decision, RUK executive chairman Simon Bazalgette said on Saturday.
He added: "The channel built up a small band of loyal followers, but the amount of interest has not been sufficient to justify a dedicated channel."
RUK and its broadcast partner Setanta are now reviewing options for the slot on Sky channel 433, which is expected to remain with the Setanta group.
RUK began the service in March 2006 as a joint venture with US track and betting operators Magna Entertainment Corp and Churchill Downs, and for a year broadcast a full studio presentation led by on-screen regulars Stephen Miller and Dave 'The Maven' Gutfreund.
A year later, the decision was taken to cut costs by removing all but a skeleton UK presence and taking direct coverage from the Magna-Churchill Downs channel HRTV, which had exclusive rights to their own tracks.
The decision to drop Racing World means that regular coverage of live US racing will be restricted to At The Races, which operates in conjunction with HRTV's rival TVG.
Bazalgette said that RUK would continue to show major US racing by working with NBC Sports and ESPN on such as the Triple Crown and Breeders' Cup.
