UK & Naas Monday Evening

R3 Wolverhampton Aussie Ruler. Would be a certainty to win a race like this on his third in a strong maiden at the big Glorious Goodwood meeting last season. Was a bit disappointing afterwards, but it is very interesting that his trainer, who has plenty of runners on the AW, has rested him over the winter. Could be an improved performer this season and, if he is, he will be very hard to beat in this weak maiden. 11/4 is a great price.
R7 Naas Newberry New E/W. Ran a fine race on his Curragh reappearance before disappointing slightly at Navan last time. Had excuses, though, as he was ridden to lead early after missing the break and probably did too much in the first part of the race before fading late on. I'm not saying he will beat the likely odds on favourite, Valac, but he can make the first three in a maiden with no strength in depth at a very attractive 14/1. If you fancy a place only bet, 11/4 with William Hill is far too big.

Thanks, Bob. I wouldn't give up on Aussie Ruler. Proved completely unsteerable round those tight bends, but still finished third even though the jockey couldn't ride him for the last three furlongs. It may be that he just has temperament issues, which is why he is still a maiden after that Goodwood run, but he has plenty of ability and I might be inclined to give him one more chance in a maiden on a straight track back on turf.
