Think he rides some good ones and some utter crap, sometimes his timing is perfection, others it is absolutely dreadful. Saw both sides just today. Possibly true of all jocks.

Best jockey in SA by a mile. Anybody who reckons not should take up bowls or support the Sharks and give up racing.

That reminds me, need to set up a training session with Magi. Just not sure whether to take the bowls option or go the baseball bat route... lol

Just about the only Saf jockey that would/could have made it in the UK should he have wanted to, eh Chicken? :)

I don't think much of him. When the hammer is down and he is on possibly the best ride in the race and it's odds on .. He fails miserably and always either just runs second or unplaced. Happened more often than not. Just my opinion. .

you just peed off with him because he rode your Superman to sleep in the first race on that Russian Speed. There are many mitigating factors when racing at Kenilworth. The position of the track is subjected to winds. The North Wester helps in the sprints but if going over 1300 up to 2200 the first part of the race is run into the teeth of that wind, thus the cape crawl on the back straight and around the bend. On the otherhand when the South Easter blows they fly on the back straight then crawl on the turn looking for position and by the time they get to the straight most of the horses and are knackered. The wind comes in from over False Bay and as there are no high buildings around the top end of the track (there is a golf course, then an airfield and sports field thus no wind breaker) that's the south easter whereas the north wester comes over blocks of flats and a shopping centre and there is just a brick wall. So there is no protection. Its rather more difficult to control and ride at Kenilworth. I suspect the same can be said of Fairview.

One further note on the subject is that the Western Cape authorities should, as posted on another thread, erect a statue of him. Why not, just walk around the outside of the Emirates and you have plenty of them including one of Bergkamp and Henry. These guys played football for Arsenal for a short time compared to the decades that Karl has been riding in Cape Town. Racing needs to start appreciating the hard working dedicated jockeys of this world as without them there would be crap racing. He has given his life to the game and although I am sure he is well rewarded financially an accolade as such will be well justified. The insults that this man has had to put up with in his life in the saddle is scandalous.

I am not a hero worshipper, far from it, but racing needs a hero or two to get it going again.

Not at all . I did not have a bet in the first. I also did not banker Brutal Force in my pick 6. Karl was on the odds on in the last race and what happen? He was on the weak favorite in race 3 and what happen? I might be an Anton fan and that's with plenty reason however I don't punt all of his mounts .

All I am saying is Karl cost punters dearly more often than not and even if it's ironic regardless my opinion of him is mentioned above.
