QE11 - SA Victory
17 years 1 month ago
Congratulations to Mike Dekock, Kevin Shea (KZN boy of course, the only non chocking KZN sportsman I can think of) Archipenko and connections. Awesome achievement.
Lets hope that the press latches on to this as this, as this is another milestone in SA sports history.

Without sounding like a stuck record, herewith another request to Carte Blanche to do a story:
As a follow up to a recent request to do a story on one of our greatest national assets, horseracing, wherein I requested that you do a story on The Dubai World Cup of Racing, which, by the way, South Africans dominated, I would like to inform you that South Africans have won the QE11 cup in Hong Kong. This is once again one of the biggest races in world racing and I would hope that the SA press gives recognition to these people, animals and achievements.
This could be a really uplifting story and I urge you to bring something positive into our living rooms as apposed to the murder, hatred, failing systems and governments that we have to sit through every Sunday. Do you not think that this is one of the reasons that South Africans are leaving in their droves?
The world watched as our national anthem rang out and flag waived in the wind. Pride filled me. Now it is up to you the media to highlight these achievements and bring back a sense pride into our lives.
I am really disappointed that I did not receive a response from you on my last request and I hope that this does not go unnoticed.
You will be able to get recordings of the events from Tellytrack (channel 232 on the DSTV bouquet)and the owners trainers and jockeys can easily be contacted.

Brilliant stuff. Another great achievement for SA.
Congrats to all concerned.
Archipenko, Kingmambo x Bound (Nijinsky).
Once again, thanks and well done to Alcaponee for the efforts to highlight some more SA positives.
Carte Blanche did a short piece on African Horse Sickness last night which shows there is an awareness that horses play a large part in our lives, creating jobs and opportunities, locally and internationally.
Surely Phumelela, Gold Circle and RA's marketing and communications people should take heed of persons like Alcaponee and make an effort to assist in promoting our industry and singing the praises of our heroes ?
Congrats to all concerned.

Maybe Phumelela should set aside some cash to help with research for a modern vaccine

But we do always forget Cat that the deals struck rely on us exporting our races in return so if we cannot do that i'm sure it will be a problem - not in anyone's intrest to have no local racing - i predict if we had no local racing for three months we would struggle to ever have a punting public again as the vast majority of off course punters will punt at casino's or slots as they have punting fever. Watch today the pools on international will go up as the money is burning a hole in their pockets and to wait until tommorrow will not work. I've got mates that can drop a grand on the UK racing just on names and numbers - no form no study nothing. Sometimes they hit a big one but mostly they loose as they back the local Fav hoping the books have studied the form for them. The science of punting has left the building with free tab sheets and exotics names . I wish every punter could at least open the newspaper before they call their bets using only the TV monitor as a guide.
