Grooms pay dispute
10 years 3 months ago
Hearing the grooms will now be under argiculture pay structure and will now be gtd R600 a week (some trainers pay under r400)
Some saying some trainers won`t be able to pay, i say it`s still not enough!!!

Bob ask yourself this. Take away your punting, a few beers, a take away or two. Can you still afford to live on £40 a week. Scandalous that what it is paying a guy that to look after horses that are worth tens of thousands.

Good to see. Paying under R400 a week is a disgrace.

But its fine for the fat cats of the RA and phumulela to entertain on race days -+ R250 a head and drinks champagne, and poor groom sits at the back of the race course waiting in the sun to get back to stables with his horse, I would love to know if he gets something to eat and drink at races,I have never seen them given food, I really hope they do it now,but I don't think they get,if there are trainers that can't afford to pay the grooms more then the racing clubs must help them,

Savas, you must blame the operators
If trainers can't afford to feed their grooms on race day ( sure most will )then they must walk out the game now
If trainers are not good enough to be able to charge a proper rate and pay a proper wage they must get out the game now
If owners can't afford to pay extra so their horses get the best care they must get out the game now

to many trainers that do deals to there detriment .And will take as little as 2850 to train a horse of which most of that goes to his living expenses and not the horse and grooms

Bob most trainers are battling to keep there stables going, its only the big stables that are ok,we need these small trainers in the game, it look like all the small stables will fall away, that's not good then most of the grooms will not have work, the club must help were its needed,

Savas I know your story, no one helped you , so why should they help the trainer ?
As whoah wrote above, too many horses on deals

I agree that the pay that grooms are receiving is too little and their living
facilities at the Training centres leave a lot to be desired . But many of these so called grooms
are really not horse friendly just watch them on Sunday afternoons when they walk the horses its yanking , pulling I and have seen many a horse being hit with the reins or lead rope, not to mention how many of them are intoxicated on Saturday and Sunday afternoons .
Many of them are lacking in Riding Skills , when I watch them sitting on the horse like they relaxing on a couch makes me crazy and when they bounce up and down on the horse`s back in the trot it makes me angry because they have not been taught to ride through their core . No matter what discipline you ride you sit up straight on a horse. There is no proper training facilities so grooms could be taught properly and we then would have the right skilled people doing the job not just some grooms brother that arrives from a neighbouring country, and his riding work two weeks after arrival having had no previous horse experience.
I am not saying all grooms are like the above .There are many good men out there.
This is just my humble opinion I do not intend to offend .
