SA racing has to help small owners and trainers

The figures above highlight how difficult racing has become for owners and trainers unless u are in the big stables.

SA Racing needs to start supplying subsidies to these smaller trainers and owners or lose them from the game.

63% of all stakes go to the top 30 yards
37% to the remaining 127 yards

This despite the smaller yards supplying 57 % of all raced horses on an annual basis.

Is it not the case always that the small man makes the rich man richer.

Jockeys and appies outside the top 30 dont fair much better.

there are 231 jockeys, appies and work riders listed this season.

71 % of all wins and all stakes go to the top 30 jockeys.

29 % gets shared by 201 jockeys even though they ride 50% off all horses

Are there maybe not too many people and horses at the trough?
I think that letting market forces prevail might go a long way to solving some of racing's issues.
Protectionism doesn't seem to be helping racing in Natal.
It may be helping a few non-achievers to achieve, but is that good for the game?

I think the question here is, can racing survive with only the top 30 Owners, Trainers and Jockeys?

The combined wealth of the richest 1 % of the world population is more than the combined wealth of the remaining 99 %.............i don't think anybody owes anybody else anything..

I agree wholeheartedly that the small Owner & Trainer need some incentive to stay in racing
they actually the backbone of Racing . Why don't we just have 2 Racing clubs one for the rich and one for the for us poor bastards that just LOVE Thoroughbreds & Racing of course lowered stake money for us ???

Humbly beg to differ...the 1% (in the main) got rich at the expense of the 99%...it is a zero-sum game...if I pay you R1 more, it means R1 less profit to me...if I charge R1 less for a product, it moves that R1 from my pocket to your pocket...

And this quantitative easing (started in the US, done by Japan, now in the EU) is going to make everyone pay very dearly in the future through inflation...if we think that the financial crises of 2007/2008 was bad, worse is still to come...
Governments bailing out banks was to protect the interests of the 1% at the expense of the 99%...
I fear not for my future but for what we bequeath our children... :(
