Today (with a bit of help from our French buddies) the argument that a strong tote brings with it much better value was once again endorsed :

Race 1 12 Style Flash R2.10 a win (1/1)
Race 3 12 Magic Trip R2.00 a win ( 5/10)

Then the Frenchies left us
Race 5 3 Solar Triptych R1.80 a win (11/10)
Race 7 3 Tiger Territory R1.80 a win (12/10)
Race 8 2 Twilight Tiger R2.30 a win (18/10)

Cannot wait until they become a regular all day fixture...

I backed Stlye Flash at 16/10 without the french

Solar Tyrptich was 15/8

Tiger Territory was 2/1

and as you say Twilight Tiger 18/10

there is only value punting singles with a bookie long run if you are serious at punting..

Tote has its good points dont get me wrong, i still believe that all exotics should be played on the tote and fixed odds should be wins and places only..

I do however think there can be some value found on larger priced runners,if your only wanting pennies on..

The first time a frog has a chunk on a horse the tote price will collapse

There is always going to be arguements against and for tote and bookie bets

I prefer to take a bet at the bookies because i choose the prices i want, i follow money. But if i had to rely on a tote dividend i would stop punting

so titch you would recomend all punters including you and your pals when you get the nod, stop punting at the bookies and bet on the tote?

So now you get told to back a 12/1 shot, you go have your 12000/ 1000.Jimmy has 24000/2000 I have 6000/500

The horse starts a 7/2 chance and wins, your happy the punter that follows the money down to 7/2 is happy etc...

But if we all took a bet on the tote, the graft gets out and the gorse returns 5/10 are you still happy collecting R1500?

With Win /Place betting,if you betting small amounts, mainly on outsiders, for fun ,you may as well take your chances on the tote as those often throw up the extraordinary dividend.
If you are punting seriously, for maximum profit, you have to achieve bets above your value threshold,so you have to back fixed odds.
Betting without knowing what odds you are ultimately getting is just too hit and miss!

I have no issue with the straight win bet being laid but the fact that bookmakers have tried to encroach on all bet types and offer trifecta quartet pa jpot etc with total disregard to what affect it has on the industry...truth of the matter is that the open bet is a parasitical practice...
With regards to your point on taking straight bets, it will only take a few winning bets b4 the limits kick in...there are 3 so called "Big Boys" in the industry that have limited me and I am a small player...and their reasoning??? the fact that a majority of my bets shorten considerably raises a red flag??? The result of the race does not matter in their view...ABSOLUTE JOKE
They price a horse up wrong and if you manage to see through it you get a limit slapped onto your profile...

Titch, business is business. They compete for the benefit of shareholders and it would be hard to find businesses that put the "good of their industry" first!
How did the tote manage to convince clients to place tote bets with bookmakers (even accepting limits for the privilege)
It's a bit like Pickn'Pay blaming Checkers everytime their profits fall.
Saftote service levels confirm that they believe they are entitled to punters custom and step one is to rid the operators of that arrogance!

(BTW I would love to see all exotics placed with the tote, but the future of that is in the hands of the tote IMO)
