Anton Marcus gets the best rides here but the best ride ever in the UK went to ... er ... Tom Queally, who is third rate at best. Kirby and Doyle are in the top six in Britain so are "top" in terms of where the best horses are but are they world class riders?

Imvho the best riders sit quietly on a horse and only ride hard when necessary, every single british rider thinks its necessary to hit the horse 100 times for it to win, there riding is quite comical actually
And if anyone watched Supermans ride in dubai, now that was WORLD CLASS, in fact the guy is a genius imvho

one great ride does not make you the worlds best as you keep on telling us that he is. One thing I really enjoy about you and me having this so call disagreement is that we have never got personal with each other.

If you're among the best of a bad lot in the UK you are going to ride a lot of big race wins because foreigners battle to break in there ... Jockeys in UK cant stand foreign riders for a reason and thats because they themselves are generally third rate.

Re: Anton Marcus have i missed something?
10 years 6 months agoits pointless arguing with you as you are biased and one eyed. Just one last bit of info for you and that is why do all the best trainers in the world cry out for the likes of Hughes, Moore, Buick, etc etc to come and ride for them in the US, UAE, Australia. Yes SA have some great jocks riding overseas. If you call UK jocks 3rd rate then you don't know as much as you think you do about horse racing.Tipster wrote: If you're among the best of a bad lot in the UK you are going to ride a lot of big race wins because foreigners battle to break in there ... Ironically you have mentioned the three riders that are genuinely world class! How about adding some more names.

I don't want to comment on our stipes absolutely clueless, Anton would never hit a horse unless absolutely necessary, its actually wrong that one jock is so blessed with such natural riding ability

A lot of our jockeys ride in the Far East and Aus etc and the list is endless of how many have come back as vastly improved riders.
Compare that to the statistics below:
2009 Irish Flat Jockeys Championships:
Pos Name Runs 1st 2nd 3rd 4th Win Money Place Money Total *
1. J.P. Murtagh 404 93 80 48 36 €3,054,760 €846,233 €3,900,993
2. P.J. Smullen 666 88 77 74 74 €1,576,715 €606,963 €2,183,678
3. F.M. Berry 671 73 60 78 66 €1,091,978 €694,548 €1,786,525
4.K.J. Manning 507 59 49 47 53 €918,925 €872,340 €1,791,265
5. D.P. McDonogh 610 56 69 62 54 €886,995 €709,645 €1,596,640
6. W.M. Lordan 531 53 45 45 51 €618,680 €295,425 €914,105
7. K. Latham 350 44 36 38 23 €522,880 €261,395 €784,275
He also had three winners in a handful of rides in the UK from 2008-2010 including a Gr 2 on Sole Power.
Latham in SA before going to Ireland: ((no. rides followed by no. wins in bold)
2006/2007 22) Keagan Latham 550 52 9.45 59 44 41 35.64 2036885.00 1312095.00 3348980.00 -126.00 (NB 39 of these wins were without a claim)
Latham in SA since returning from Ireland: (no. rides followed by no. wins in bold)
2011/2012 49) Keagan Latham 220 18 8.18% 15 18 16 30.45 1090080.00 530420.00 1620500.00
2012/2013 93) Keagan Latham 172 6 3.49% 14 13 12 26.16 231250.00 323800.00 555050.00 -77.00

He had more winners in Ireland in one season than he's had in 3 over here since returning and he appears to be worse now than he was before he left. (He is heading back to Europe next year not surprisingly).
