Gold Circle is pleased to announce that with effect from this Friday, 17 October, "Friday Night Live" at Greyville Racecourse will incorporate a "Braai Zone" on a regular basis. In a joint venture with a group of dedicated racing and braai enthusiasts, the "Braai Zone" will be independently operated and the various offerings will be supplied and prepared on behalf of racegoers.

"All are welcome to join in the fun", said Gold Circle's Racing and Marketing Executive Graeme Hawkins. "Live entertainment in the recently refurbished Lightning Shot bar is now a regular feature of Friday night racing and the "Braai Zone", which presents a brand new dining option for our customers, is situated in front of the grandstands," he added.

"The Tequila Twins proved to be a hit last week and they are returning for a second appearance on Friday evening and, once again, Happy Hour will feature in the Lighting Shot from 6pm to 7pm, with local beer brands being sold at R8 throughout the night in this venue."

Improvements are in the pipeline for the ground floor Paddock area and new features and events will be introduced over the coming months.

It's not the braai that should be the issue but rather the HAPPY HOUR and half-price beers that will be available throughout the meeting.

Now if patrons drink responsibly [?], there should be little concern, however there have been a spate of accidents recently in the early hours of the morning involving youngsters returning from casinos, parties etc.

The most recent was on the road opposite the 1OOOmt mark at Greyville when the vehicle went out of control and collided with a tree. The tree was ok but the 2 occupants of the vehicle were returning from a birthday party and were seriously injured in the crash.

However, CCTV camera footage showed a car stopping alongside and dragging the 2 men out of the crash. The unfortunate victims were robbed of all their valuables in their possession and in the vehicle and were left unattended.

When the paramedics eventually arrived at the scene, the 2 men had unfortunately died of their injuries.
