This topic has been hashed and rehashed here...and it keeps on getting flouted on course regularly...

One wonders why the person controlling access is not fired for not enforcing the rules properly...

As for me, I am close to not giving a s..t anymore. The rules are blatantly ignored in KZN and I am considering joining the throng of 'I'll dress as I please and you just dare try and stop me'....

Jee wizzikins, so I can't wear those hot-pink hotpants of mine to lead in my winner?

More seriously (I'm unlikely to ever have a runner, sigh), what about the taking of winners' photos? Does the winning owner have to leave his/her kids out of the picture? Or move the photo shoot out of the parade ring? Lots of them have small children or babies in tow for the picture-taking and they always seem to behave themselves.

If some people think the "rules" don't apply to them it smacks of arrogance and thinking they are bigger than the sport...unacceptable and requires those that lead and run the sport to act to ensure that all are treated equally...unless they are too close to the perpetrators that it prevents them from doing what is right...

I cannot believe what I am reading. You would think that a crime has been committed! Guys lets get over ourselves. An owner goes into the parade ring and all hell breaks loose? I have been away and admit that I did not see the offence, but R E A L L Y. If the guy is the owner and has fulfilled all his obligations who the hell are you to act the way you are. I say very well done to the guy and hope his horse wins many more. Can someone please show me where the rules for the parade ring are before you all make fools of yourselves. People can and should be able to wear what they choose to.

OTH, I am pretty sure the rule is long trousers, collared shirt and closed shoes to be worn to any Owners and Trainers room, Members room and Parade ring.

David, David ... I is living in the past {sigh} ... I'm not the long-legged lady I used to be. Well, the legs are just as long, but they've gotten a lot wider and as for the bum ... and the tum ... I am silent. Indeed, if our horsie won you might try to take my bridle and lead me in by mistake.

Besides, with a skirt on, wouldn't you be forbidden access to the parade ring? Shock! Horror! Maybe the officials would insist on checking whether you were wearing shorts under it ...

Sorry all you Clanners, but I just cannot take this subject seriously.

Craig let me ask you this question as a trainer, do you think an owner of yours who is in good standing should be denied entrance to the parade ring / winners enclosure because he does not fulfill the image "expected" from an owner? This begs the question whether owners should be elevated above "normal" racegoers. Not all people are the Kantors Joostes van Niekerks of the world and if Joe Average who has 10% of a horse wants to go to the course to support HIS horse that HE pays for who are the Racing Association / Phumelela / Gold Circle / Jockey Club to set admission standards? I can fully understand certain areas having dress codes and here he has a choice. To be denied access to the parade ring based on the clothes you wear is wrong.

I was pretty sure that the appearance "rule" was a request from the owner bodies and not an official Jockey Club rule. I have spent about 2 hours looking for this rule and cannot find it. The Racing Association website refers to the dress code of the Elevation Room and nothing else. Perhaps someone can assist in pointing out the rule that addresses what you need to wear to get admission to the parade ring? Another question - if the rule does exist, why is it not enforced?

The intent of the rule is just to look respectable. There is no damn rule about looking like Jooste. Read the rule. Such a pathetic thread grrrr...
