It seems that the readers comments on Sporting Post are the new place for people to have their say. I must admit to being surprised at some of the venom aimed at the Jockey Club. In my day no one would have dared to mutter what is being posted now.

I have been watching the trend and I am sure Karel has things under control and also note the posts he deletes before the cancer takes over as the image can takes a while to repair, it's a great site and superb articles.

The same arguments and points of view were being expressed before Tom dick, phumelela , Gold Circle or the NHRA even existed.

The game is up the pole, enjoy it until you don't enjoy it anymore

Question to Over the Air: Could you kindly elaborate as to why you are "surprised at some of the venom aimed at the Jockey Club" ?

Good morning William.

I come from the "golden days" of racing when this was the only gambling show in town. The Jockey Club ruled with an iron fist and the disparaging remarks made on SP would have been dealt with quickly and severely. Let me say that I make the comments as an observation and not as a compliment or criticism of the authors. I discussed this with a racing mate and he says all the "big mouths" involved are not members and thus can not be disciplined.

Morning guys don't want to duplicate a thread but as far as the race 3 objection where we were all giving our thoughts and inputs and tellytrack were oblivious to any problems.

I only watched the race once and a few seconds of the head on and my take was the winner caused severe interference and I felt there was a good chance the result would change and was not shocked when they changed the result.

However my knowledge of the rules and regulations are not as good as Robs and he correctly put a strong case forward on ABC and SP and I look forward to a reply from HRA on their interpretation of their own rules.

The point is to get a response from the establishment- I have posted 4 or 5 times on Sporting Post and twice been contacted by,and interacted with, the parties involved, whereas have never had the same from forum posts. Clearly they are more concerned about their image in the press!!!
BTW , it is the respect that I had for the jockey club ( in the days of Jack Sproule) that causes me to be so disappointed with the lack of regulation by its replacement.....the NHA!

Over the Air,I think it may be worth pointing a few things out to your "racing mate"
a)I believe that racing has to be regulated to be trusted before it can attract new punters!
b)I have been a member of the NHA since its inception.
c)I have pages of evidence of the failure of the NHA to enforce its own rules.
d) in order to lay a complaint against the NHA, as a member, I have to pay R3000 and agree that if they find my complaint frivolous, I agree to be fined up to R50,000 (WTF)
d) I have goaded the NHA to discipline me and then I can use my evidence, in open court if necessary ,to defend myself.

I have decided not to renew my colours this year ,however ,if the NHA will resend the account ,I will renew, so that their defence of my not being a member holds no water......then charge me!!...................I dare them!!!!

(Just one other point...........I have never commented anywhere without using my correct name..........the same one that my membership is in )

Rob my post is in no way a criticism of you or any other poster on SP. My friends comment was his view and I have no idea whether it is accurate or not. To be honest racing politics bore me. My apologies if I have offended you it was never my intention

I honestly am not offended. I believe that many ,like your mate, are not aware of the real situation as to how the NHA protects itself from censure, and it merely gave me an opportunity to point it out.
It is clear from some of your other posts you are, like me, not exactly enamoured with the industry right now.............we are just focussed on different areas!
