Ryan Moore: Marvellous can give me a great ride in the Irish Oaks
With easy Oaks winner Taghrooda sidestepping this race in favour of the King George next week, this suddenly gets a lot more winnable and the most obvious beneficiaries are the placed horses at Epsom, Tarfasha and Volume.
But Aidan has a pretty strong hand in here with five runners, and they are hopefully headed by my mount Marvellous.
She was a touch disappointing when beaten nine lengths into sixth at Epsom, but I don't think that should have been such a surprise.
Because, even though she won the Irish 1,000 Guineas by a convincing three lengths for me at The Curragh less than a fortnight earlier, she had a pretty hard race that day and the question mark was always going to be if the Oaks came too soon after that victory.
She will be a fresher horse today, and has a decent chance, as I think that she should stay the 1m4f ok, being a Galileo. She did take a fair bit of rousing to win at the Curragh, so presumably Aidan thinks she ran a bit lazily at Epsom too and that first-time blinkers will wake her up.
But she obviously wouldn't want the ground too fast - it was very testing at the Curragh - so any rain would be a big bonus.
Coronation Stakes sixth, and Joseph's mount, Tapestry should appreciate the step up in trip, and she wouldn't be inconvenienced by fast ground, having run a good race on it in the Moyglare last season. I can see her going well.
Oaks seventh Palace also has an outside place chance if seeing out the trip better today - I rode her at Epsom and felt she didn't quite get home - and you have to say that Aidan has another big player in Bracelet.
Ok, she will have to step up a fair bit on her ½ length defeat of Lustrous in the Ribblesdale to trouble the form horses, but she was obviously well suited to the 1m4f trip at Ascot and there could be a lot more to come from her.
But, as you can gather, it's a competitive race with Taghrooda out, and several will be fancying their chances now.
