PUNTER 'DELIRIOUS' AFTER SCOOP6 WIN

A London-based credit controller has emerged as one of the three small-staking punters to have become Scoop6 millionaires over the weekend.

Betfred, which operates the Scoop6 after its purchase of the Tote, has also located an as-yet unnamed man who invested the minimum £2 in one of its shops and holds one of the eight tickets worth £1,342,599.

The credit controller was similarly a £2 punter and placed his bet in a Paddy Power branch on the King's Road in the capital. He wishes to remain anonymous but is reported by the firm to be 58 and originally from Dundee.

Saturday's Scoop6 had amassed huge proportions after rolling over through 12 weeks and victory for the Alan King-trained Chatez in the Betfred Mobile Casino Silver Bowl Stakes at Haydock sparked celebrations, with 122 tickets still standing going into the final leg.

Each winning ticket is eligible to play for the bonus fund next Saturday, which stands at a further £5,481,763.

After checking the result from leg four, the Betfred Mind Blowing Scoop6 Today EBF Stallions Stakes, the credit controller could not find his selection, March, in the results. But that filly had been withdrawn and the bet switched to the unnamed favourite, the successful Joyeuse.

The 58-year-old told Paddy Power: "Obviously I didn't expect too much from the Scoop6 and looking at that result I thought I'd lost, but then I checked and I was absolutely delirious when I'd won."

The other tickets are held by a £6 punter from a Ladbrokes shop in Dublin, two who invest high stakes via the betting exchange Betfair, and three syndicates.

The Ladbrokes punter also had luck on his side, as he was another to get Joyeuse when his selection was a non-runner. He wishes to remain anonymous, too, and is not a regular in the Dublin shop. Ladbrokes believe this may have been his first attempt at the bet.

Spokesperson Hayley O'Connor said: "After a few near-misses, we're over the moon that one of our customers has become a Scoop6 millionaire. The customer has become one of our biggest betting-shop winners of all time across Ireland and the UK and we wish him all the very best."

Last weekend, Ladbrokes punter Joe McGuire came within a length and a quarter of claiming just short of £7million for his £8 stake when denied in the last race of six in the bet at Catterick.

The winnings eclipse the previous record for a betting shop success of £1,132,657 by Stuart Boland in 2004, also on the Scoop6.

I have been going on for years that we should accumulate all Pick 6 carryover for a month and have a massive pool for the first, last or big raceday for the month. Would hopefully generate "outside" interest and bring more people to the game chasing a massive pool. Unfortunately can't ever see this happening. :(

agree with Shrek, consolidate all carryover into one mega pool, only when we get to 20 or 30 mil will we be able attract more interest...B)

No doubt big pools and potential dream payouts is a must for racing to compete with Lotto and the casino. There are proven strong links between mega pools and new and renewed interest.

I have a product, only a few weeks from completion of the development that has all the elements to give racing much bigger pools and more big winners and more winners than ever.

Currently being marketed globally and hopeful of convincing betting operators which are showing a fair bit of interest of the need to be more innovative in product design.
