Is The Open Bet Coming To An End?

With word on the ground that some of the bigger bookmakers are signing deals with PGE to show the pics in their shops, and then negotiating commissions in the region of 8% to put punters bets on the tote, why would punters continue to support the open bet?
Despite all the negativity surrounding what has happened in terms of the pictures over the last 80 days,it seems PGE may in fact be having their cake and eating it.

Theoretically, it should be better for the industry,if the bookmakers and tote resolved their differences, and if the tote bets were channelled through the tote, but with the bookmakers becoming service providers for those bets, as we know that Saftote do not understand the word.
HOWEVER,it is inevitable that the increased commission will increase the takeout (as I am sure has occurred with co-mingling) and so the value of tote bets will reduce even further.
It should be a legal requirement that Saftote pools declare the takeout of each pool,so instead of showing just nett pools only, they show gross,take-out and then nett!
The problem with that, is the shrewd punter, who understands value, will realise that even roulette is a better option, value wise.
Unfortunately, racing needs to find a way to REDUCE the take-out of tote pools to compete adequately for the shrewd money, and that is why they have declared their target market where they have!

Maybe they should be sitting around a table and "exchanging" ideas

The only "P"executive who has the intelligence to understand the benefit that could accrue to the operators/ Saftote is Vee Moodly......I can't help but wonder how the rest got their positions!

Another question
Do you think that only a few owners that are worried about stakes, bookmakers , operators and serious punters have any interest that there is a dispute about the open bet ?
Now that TT has signed with DSTV the uproar seems to be over and the furore a whimper now so why not everyone come to an agreement ?
You never know a Strong Tote might turn bookies into bookies again

Agree?
The punter will always be the pawn in horseracing. Getting screwed left, right and centre.
All this while most punters on this forum defended the open bet....now they screw us.

Currently Hollywood provides the open bet 24-7 - a big big advantage for me. Will the bookies implied in this thread continue to offer the open bet 24-7 or will they only take the open bet when the tote opens (so late on a Saturday)?
