R1 Over half of the field make no appeal at all. Nothing in the breeding suggests to me that Lizetti will definitely take to the surface. Likely winner imo will come from the top two in the market. Saint Actavius is much improved recently but comes off a 10 week break whereas Sansilvio, though on 2nd run after a rest, was a close second on sand debut following 22 weeks away to one that followed up first time out of the maidens and I give her the edge. On their last run Summer Strike should hold Angel's Mystery for 3rd .. Sansilvio x Saint Actavius x Summer Strike x Angel's Mystery
R2 Favourite Language Of Love hard to oppose and based on debut runs Modus Tellendi should hold In Conformity. The latter gets the blinkers here and is probably better than his last run when soundly beaten by LOL. Said And Done and All Knowledge should be in a separate race for the quartet spot... Language Of Love x Modus Tollendi x In Conformity x Said And Done
R3 One of the two toughest races on the card imo (with R5) and plenty in with a chance. One of those where I have changed my mind a few times and a lot may depend on which horse turns up wanting to perform, none are ever going to be stars of the sand. The Magic Bowl was much improved lto and a repeat of that run would see him go close. Fort Dixy and Back to Bowler both get blinkers and though FD seems more consistent, I think BTB would win if both at their best. Sun Is Up was only 1.5l back off FD on c debut and Gary The Great wouldn't have to find huge improvement so both must have something of a chance. Merciless has shown little on the turf but on breeding could take to the surface and surprise but is very short in the market for such poor turf form. Flamming Light has seemingly received plenty of outsider support on her first visit to the c and though his form his hardly inspiring, he must receive some respect based on the support and the inform stable. Captive Consort on breeding can also not be discounted but jockey bookings suggest BTB is preferred... The Magic Bowl x Back To Bowler x Fort Dixy x Sun Is Up
R4 Tobe Heather should have improvement and likely to go very close but, although she has the worse of the draw, I just prefer Arabian Princess with the appie giving her a weight advantage... Arabian Princess x Tobe Heather x Regal Breeze
R5 Another where I changed my mind frequently. Var Light under the guidance of Ziets may improve again over this trip and is a big price, small idiot. Sir Newton not out of it and the seemingly inconsistent Koenisegg could be involved if turning up in the mood. Carlisie could take to the surface and would be a threat if so doing but Simons up on Giro Jet so perhaps that one is the stable preference and another in with a chance. Stone Reeves has obvious chances on recent form as does stablemate Quick Glance, not sure if the jockey bookings imply a preference for the latter but he also has the better draw of the two. The nagger for me is Hostile Takeover who won well on her second c appearance over 1200 and has performed decently on the turf over this d, could go well from a decent draw in 5. Not a race to have a (big
) punt but I'll go with... Hostile Takeover x Quick Glance x Stone Reeves
R6 San Vicenzo x Cadillac Baby x Duchess Catherine
R7 The Plunderer x Lecture Queen x Sudden Surprise (despite jockey bookings implying SS the stable choice, if TP can reproduce the sand form of his first two efforts at the Vaal then he must have a fair shout here, only effort on this c was over 1600 which was perhaps too far. At the prices worth chancing for me. Lecture Queen has run against the boys before and at the weights also likely to go very close imo)
R8 Taqdeer x Noah Forever x Carry On Captain (? Sir Swarovski)
R9 Smart Set x Kate's Emblem x Van Loveren (Van Loveren the interesting one but for a horse that has consistently been reported not striding and is returning from a 22 week break, I would prefer a bigger price. I'll chance Smart Set who, though also returning from a break, was doing the same when an easy maiden winner on c debut lto. Kate's Emblem is a good price imo but the draw will make it very difficult).
