CHELTENHAM - Day 2 - Wed 12 Mar 2014
11 years 2 months ago
Four Grade 1’s on the day
Race 1; 15h30; Baring Bingham Novices Hurdle; 4yo+; abt 4,200m; 10 hurdles: Cannot confidently look at anything further than the 2/1 favourite #6 FAUGHEEN; RacingPost shows him as undefeated in 9 lifetime starts five of which were over the sticks and were easy, impressive and unextended; Ruby Walsh rides and Willie Mullins trains; 2/1 may look expensive in a big field but must be the nap of the meeting.
Race 2; 16h05; RSA Chase; 5yo+; abt 4,900m; 19 fences; several winners of this race have gone onto win the Gold Cup eg Bob’s Worth last year, Arkle and Denman: #15 SMAD PLACE won his last two starts in emphatic fashion; a 7/1 shot in a 15 horse field looks fine.
Race 4; 17h20; Queen Mother Champion Chase; 5yo+; abt 3,200m; 12 fences; the fantastic Sprinter Sacre won this race last year: #3 CAPTAIN CONAN; jock Geraghty and trainer Henderson looking for a hattrick in this race; 2nd favourite at 5/1.
Race 7; 19h15; Champion Bumper; 4, 5 & 6 yo’s; no fences because it is a bumper (I dinnae ken that a bumper is a flat race for jumpers); the most prestigious bumper in the National Hunt calendar; Jamie Spencer was the winning jock in the 2002 edition; trainer Willie Mullins who has won this race eight times is on a hattrick and has three carded: #13 SHANESHILL; www.cheltenhamzone.com/previews/2014-champion-bumper-preview/ “...the way he quickened clear in his last start was so visually impressive...”; is the long favourite at 13/2 in an 18 horse field.
Prosperous punting

The best horse doesn't always win the race.

Tabgold (Gold Circle) has live streaming for both SA & UK meetings on their website. You have to register though. You dont need a Tabgold account.
