Felix takes Job at the academy
11 years 3 months ago
On 20th February 2014, one of South Africa's great sportsmen, Felix Coetzee,
announced that he was to retire from race riding. Felix has been a stalwart
of South African thoroughbred horseracing for many years and has expressed
an interest in remaining involved in the Sport.
Following a visit on Wednesday 26th February 2014, Felix who has been
working with Martin Locke visited the South African Jockey Academy in
Summerveld. Being impressed with what he saw, Felix had discussions with the
Headmaster and the Chairman of the Board. It was resolved that Felix would
take up a position with the Academy on a fixed-term basis, commencing on 1
April 2014.
With Felix's international as well as national experience and the fact that
he has until very recently been racing at the highest level, it is believed
that his consultation with the Academy would add great value.

hopefully he doesn`t buy a cane (td)
seriously there is other ways in making people dedicated, look at all the bullying and other problems at the academy in the recent few years and your solution...bully them more?

The first line was tongue in cheek I then said seriously though
The huge problem is that the bulk of the kids come from very disadvantaged backgrounds
as a result success goes to their heads and many fail right after completing their time
Please dont quote me Khumalo and Yeni They both never stop working
How many of the others fail Look at Morake for one
They take in 20 plus per year and not more than 3 become good
Many get heavy as always
The record is not great

If one dislikes the use of a cane on humans then surely one shouldn't condone the whipping of horses? No? or is it ok to 'cane' animals only? I ask without seeking to be combative or making any sort of accusation or conclusion. Just asking (as they say).

Felix will add significant value to whatever he chooses to do in racing. The academy are lucky to have him. I wish him well.

Easy
A true professional will lay down the law. The others ought to follow it.
I doubt there is anyone else in the academy that can boast of his credentials.
