Sorry but don't take TVL horses serious, only when they go to NTL and the cape's best are there then you really see how the best.

What does that have to do with what the OP asked?????
I think Louis could possibly win the Classic but he will have some issues staying the Derby trip. However it is not inconceivable that he could win the TC. He seems progressive and was super impressive yesterday!

Which of the yard’s runners are
you likely to partner in the
Grade 2 Gauteng Guineas? Tell
us about him and can we expect
you to complete a double in this
contest?
"I am riding LOUIS THE KING. I am
hoping that I can complete the
double. He is a very decent horse
but the drop to the mile is a slight
concern. He is looking for 2000m
but in saying that, he is classy."

Would be nice if LTK goes on to pull it off for the Woodruff stable, considering how close/unlucky they were with Tellina last year.

Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

Forest Indigo was not far off in the Cape Guineas, and appeared to run close to his best yesterday when slammed, so Louis the King put up the best performance by any 3yo this year so far by some margin. The only question mark regarding yesterday was the effect of the rain as it must have been quite soft by the time the features were run.
The Classic looks to be at his mercy as he will meet mostly the same opposition, and 1800m will be no problem.
The Derby is less obvious. Black Minnaloushe ran his best races over 1600m, although he stayed 2000m in top company. Only 5% of his winners are over 2400m+. There are of course plenty of Storm Cat line decendents that get the trip, but usually when bred to dams with stamina. Damsire Rich Mans Gold was best over a mile, and the second dam by National Emblem was a sprinter. There is a little bit of stamina further back.
There must certainly be some doubt about Louis staying the 2400m, but it is not impossible. With a few lengths in hand, even if he is less effective over further, he might still be good enough.
If he wins the second leg well, then he will be a short priced favourite for the Derby, and I would then look for value amongst genuine stayers.
This horse could see a resurgence in interest in the progeny of Black Minnaloushe. He was well supported in his first few years here, but has been somewhat neglected at the sales the past year or two. He has been getting a regular flow of winners, but not much success in the big races.

hard to tell cause of the conditions but the one that caught my eye was bouclette top coming from way back to take 4th. definite contender for the classic and derby.

Don't think that Black Minnaloushes can really win Black type beyond 2000m....

Yes Heavy Metal, Pomodoro and Igugu. Guess you haven't backed a July winner for a few years now.

You forgot - Tarry and de Kock are not Gauteng trainers
I would like to see what happens in the Classic first (surely we won't have another mudbath) before I make up my mind :S
