1) Premium rate entry easy question, R2k to the winner, plugged at every opportunity by spam merchant Clinton Basel on Tellytrack saying how good it is that the Tote put money back into racing

2) Letter written to Sporting Post mailbag (not by ABC) questioning whether this really is the Tote putting money back into racing as what happens to the profit once once the prize is covered?

3) AFTER the letter in SP Mailbag the TAB2000 competition announces that any profits will go to the Horse Trust (great no problem there as far as we are concerned)

4) TAB2000 competition disappears shortly afterwards

5) After receiving complaints from the racing fraternity about spam for Strikers SMS service ABC investigate and reveal the spammers identity (Clinton Basel)

6) Clansman states how his mother in law entered this TAB2000 competition once and subsequently recieved spam plugging Strikers advice line. Others voice their concern about receiving spam despite never subscribing to any premium SMS service and question how their personal details ended up in the hands of serial spammer Clinton Basel.

7) Several new posters join ABC forum on the same day and defend the master spammer Clinton Basel whilst attacking ABC.

That tab2000 competition was a joke no wonder it got pulled. Who's going to pay R20 premium sms to stand a chance of winning a mickey-mouse R2k - get real!! Absolute amateurs coming up with drivel like that and as for the butt-licker ORION that said, 'Clinton Basel, one of the most innovative entrepreneurs in this country and a highly proffessional presenter'.. well surely that has to rate right up there with Zuma's wash away aids with a shower speech!

Just to clarify Orion's dumb misinterpretation of my comment to Chris:

My Mom-In-Law entered one Tabgold competition and has since been bombarded with marketing SMS telling her what Strydom and Zaki think.

I never utilised her phone for anything - she reported it to me and asked me to get it stopped as besides being irritating (she has never heard of Strydom and Zaki) they send their bait messages at ungodly hours when normal decent folk are fast asleep or doing other things!

This is not directed at the Strydoms or the Zaki's who are succesful decent racing families but against their technical support.I have good friends in this industry who pay for their advertising - they don't prostitute it off Phumelela and Gold Circle intellectual and other property!

I echo your sentiments Grun, I hope the information providers of Clinton Basel's spamming operation who's marketing strategy you have described so accurately do as well.

I hope the story that has been broken on ABC and the subsequent reaction to it which our readers have had to endure over the last 36 hours or so is given the widest possible audience via the South African race media.
