Stipes

Where are the days the racing community(trainers Jockeys) were petrified of the stipes(tillett and co)
Today our stipes IMO are not racing people who know how to police racing properly and with a strict iron fist and put fear into the hearts of those that contravene the rules, with suspensions for both parties found guilty(they always have some reason to Appeal)
I think maybe get ex Jockeys to act as stipes as they know the game better than the current crop and give them the power to implement punishment to the offenders.1 that springs to mind is Benny Little and there must be a few more out there

Stipes need a clear framework in which they may act. i don't believe they are getting that from the NHA. Hence the inconsistencies .

Uncle Frank Mc Grath was a legend. No TV, just his Zeiss binocs and he read the WHOLE race/field. His only reference or " replay " was when the film came back two or three weeks later and he was NEVER wrong. Different division !

Honestly, NHRA has gone backwards over last 10 years. New Chairman and new CEO are under pressure to right so many wrongs, but I have faith in them. I think we will see many changes now and I think that in some areas already, the screws have been tightened. This is good, hope I am right.

The old saying is that the fish rots from the head. There needs to be a will from the top down if you want rules to be implemented with a iron hand. On the other hand, this is a professional game and jockeys are contracting their services to their clients.

The other day I backed a horse ridden by a senior Cape Town jockey. Although the horse is bred for further, i decided that it might still be good enough to win a sprint. I expected the horse to try and stay up close to the pace because it was unlikely to have the burst of a real sprinter. I was annoyed to see the horse hang back (throwing away any chance really) and run on. I subsequently found out that the jockey had ridden to instruction,

I guess what i'm saying is that as punters we guess, and to some extent so do the stipes. But trainers must sometimes "know" when or if people are conspiring. What's the other saying...Bad men succeed when good men do nothing?

And I went STRAIGHT to the boardroom the other day when a jock just stood up in the irons and stopped riding 200m out simply because he was beaten..... absolute fraud, imho!
