Brown Pete withdrawn
at request of BHA
By Tony Smurthwaite 4:47PM 3 DEC 2013

BROWN PETE, backed from 8-1 into 2-1 favourite for his debut with trainer Ann Stokell at Wolverhampton on Tuesday, was withdrawn from the race at the request of the BHA.

The handicap topweight for the 5.10pm all-weather contest is on a losing streak of 23 but bookmakers took the scissors to his odds for his debut for Stokell, who trains at Southwell racecourse in Nottinghamshire and has sent out one winner so far in 2013.

Brown Pete was among 21 horses moved in recent days from Violet Jordan to Stokell by owner Stephen Arnold, whose horses race under the name of rakebackmypoker.com.

Robin Mounsey, the BHA's media manager, said on Tuesday: "It has been brought to our attention that Ann Stokell's yard is only licensed for nine boxes.

"The horses that Arnold has moved have been put into a yard across the road that is not licensed.

"The horses are ineligible to run and Mrs Stokell has been informed that the horses are ineligible to run, that includes the horse entered tomorrow [We Have A Dream]."

Arnold, who was at Wolverhampton, said: "The horse has been forced to be withdrawn by the BHA due to licensing issues at Ann Stokell's stables, other than that I have no further comment on the matter."

Brown Pete holds entries at Wolverhampton on Thursday and Friday.
