This is only the second time that I can recall since the switch to MR's.
It is not a WFA type arrangement!!!

have they not taken horses down before (three-year-olds ) in one go maybe in March/April? I seem to recall something like that

They may have -the only one I can remember was intended to "correct"a discrepancy between major and minor centers.

We have a few problems "hard wired" into our racing.
Our racing population is divided into 4 'island" communities, where most of the time the same horses meet each other.
We offer the same prize money for a handicap and non-handicap at the same level, so most horses want to run in the hcp.
We reward the beaten horses (majority) and penalize the winners (few), so there is a downward creep.
We cut of the penalties to the runners up, more downward creep.
We make global adjustments to fix this, and the horses at the top going up looks silly.
We handicap the handicappers from doing a proper long hcp.
The handicappers don't "rate" horses, they just make 1000's of micro adjustments.
There is no penalty from many bad runs, like a relegation, to counteract rewards for poor performances.
All these issues spiral into an inevitable conclusion...think bath plug.

The biggest problem was the ratings were increased but not the programme, so we the trainers nominated for races that horses became ineligible in a week. It is a mess and I don't remember us being CONSULTED. Amazing how we allow this, but the NHA decided!!!

The Sporting Post shows that only the Gauteng and Natal MRs have been increased and not for those Horses running at Ken tomorrow. Is it because of the Programs not also being adjusted in time for this weekends racing and only the Cape boys doing the right thing.

Important Notice
Patrons are advised that the Turf Merit Ratings in the Major Centres (Gauteng ;Kwazulu Natal and the Western Cape) were increased by 6 points in 1 August 2013 and are effective from the racemeeting of 10 August 2013.The change was necessary for alignment of ratings both nationally and internationally.
You right they don't seem to have included the Kenilworth meeting although it is within the date supplied. The Kzn card reflects the new ratings.

Is a 3yo (MR 91) carrying 57 expected to finish ahead of a 4yo (80) with 59,5 at this stage ?
