Feel free to add comments, disagreements etc... basically happy for you to use this to help all. And no, not doing it for all races!!

R1

1 GLOBAL TALK - Improved for only place in 5 runs under this inform jock last time. Good draw. Trainer on a hat-trick after winning last 2 at Scottsville. Good chance if repeats.
2 MR ALFONSO - 3rd run after long rest. Placed all 4 sand starts. Good draw. Appie takes 4 off. Good chance.
3 HANDSOME DANCER - 21 weeks off. Low draw. Placed 2/5 c/d. 20th run. Outside chance if all goes well but likely to need it.
4 SALUTE THE SUN - 5.75l behind 1 last time. Low draw. Placed 2/5 c/d. 17th run. Blinkers off. hard to see form reversal.
5 SELAZAR - Second both sand starts (1200 and 1450). Drop in trip a possible concern. Ok draw. Chance but may find one or two with too much speed.
6 TORNADO TWISTER - 7l behind 5 last time (1200). Second only c/d run, beaten 5l and little other form in race but winner went in again next time out. Times don't appear special but placed 4/6 c. 12th run. High draw. SJG signs of form return. Jock? (Appie AA up taking 1.5 off). Fradd on other SJG runner. May be worth a small idiot e/w if reaching 33s plus.
7 DORANDO PIETRI - Debut, Low draw. Nothing to say this one will be challenging.
8 FIGHTING FORCE - 3rd run after rest. Over 5l behind 2 in run after rest. Not placed in 2 sand runs (1200). Good draw. Fradd up for SJG, showing signs of form return. Possible if improving for 3rd run and trainer form.
9 GEMS A PLENTY - Sand debut. Erasmus/Brown. Sire Mogok. High draw. Turf form very consistent, placed in 5/6 distance runs but beaten fav last three. Big chance if taking to the surface.
10 HIGHLAND LAD - 2.25l behind 6 last time. Low draw. Placed 2/4 c/d. 12th run. Appie takes 4 off. Looks well held, unlikely to be involved.
11 HIDDEN GUN - Not been within 9l of winner in 3 c/d runs. High draw. Can't see it!
12 AGILE COMBAT - Debut. Bits in breeding suggest might take to the surface. Inform Gunter gets the ride. Drawn high. The R2 e/w horse.
13 BATTLE OF ALMA - Sand debut. 2nd run. Good draw but nothing to say this one will be challenging.
14 KAZM - Debut. Appie takes 4 off. Good draw but nothing to say this one will be challenging.
15 KING OF MAGIC - Debut. Magner/Chambers = respect. Drawn high. No hints in breeding. The R1 e/w horse.
16 RED JOHN - Sand debut. 2nd run. Low draw and nothing to say this one will be challenging.
Reserves
17 RIVER COVE - Sand debut. 2nd run. 27 weeks off. High draw but nothing to say this one will be challenging.
18 ROYAL STOCK - 0/4 c/d and nothing to say this one will be challenging.

Selection... GEMS A PLENTY x GLOBAL TALK x MR ALFONSO x FIGHTING FORCE (which is sadly pretty much as the market has it!)

Speed ratings for those main contenders with previous Vaal Sand form –

With the 3 x 1000m races on 27 July producing the following ‘draw’ results –
13 ran : 12 – 11 – 13 – 3
16 ran : 14 – 11 – 13 – 4
16 ran : 13 - 6 - 15 - 16
Looks as though high barrier draws could have an influence in races 1 and 4…this pattern has been gathering momentum since May.

Race 1 MDN 1000m
84…Mr. Alfonso 4/1
82…Global Talk 11/2
82…Salute the Sun 14/1
80…Selazar 8/1
79…Handsome Dancer 25/1
79…Tornado Twister 25/1
??…Gems a Plenty 4/1
??…King of Magic 33/1
Mr. Alfonso looks to ‘figure’ here (although possibly better over 1200m), well drawn and trainer in fair VS form. Would be more interested in Salute the Sun from a better draw whilst the ‘untried sand runners’ Gems a Plenty and King of Magic are considered. Tornado Twister a definite inclusion in quartets.

Race 2 MR78 1800m
93…Olympic Spring 9/2
88…Lady Julia 18/10
86…Beautiful Dawn 10/1
85…Tresco 3/1
85…Tizasmartdollar 25/1
Olympic Spring’s last run ‘out of character’, if forgiving, she seems well-in here.
Lady Julia has been consistent and obviously can feature here.

Race 3 MDN-F 1450m
75…Cerise Silk 9/2
75…Woodrose 33/10
72…Radiant Wisdom 20/1
67…Royal Taska 5/1
65…French Approval 20/1
56…Hunt the Stars 20/1
Cerise Silk has been ultra consistent in her last 3 runs…whether this is good enough here has to be discovered. Woodrose performed well in first sand run as did Royal Taska from a lousy draw. The Radiant Wisdom figure is from last year yet if she stills has her ‘ability’ she can upset. Upset potential here.

Race 4 MR67 1000m
92…Gold Prospector 5/2
90…Jetsons 28/10
90…Victory Call 20/1

Look no further than the top 3 as the others are rated 5 lengths inferior.
Accounting for ‘high’ favourable draws the vote has to go with Jetsons although the price is skinny for a gelding with such erratic form. Victory Call only needs to repeat last run to feature here.

Race 5 MR76F 1200m
99…Love Vivien 1/1
95…Jolly Wood 10/1
94…Sing the Blues 8/1
93…Twilight Elva 10/1
92…Velvet Jar 12/1
90…Weekend Special 10/1
Love Vivien looks, and is priced, the days banker. Draw 12 (or 10 if reserve runners are scratched) is a concern, the next 3, all well drawn, look the main challengers on ratings and as the betting suggests.

Race 6 MR78 1800m
99…Spectroscope 7/1
97…Hunter Valley 7/2
94…Rashad 3/1
91…King’s Joy 7/2
90…Blue Concorde 7/1
90…Paintyourface 8/1
Spectroscope, back on the sand, looks good value in this competitive contest. Hunter Valley consistent (except June run) and Rashad was impressive on sand debut however its Spectroscope for me!

Race 7 MR68 1600m
94…White Squall 4/1
94…Ligeti 4/1
91…Giro Jet 4/1
91…Aces High 8/1
89…Kudos 11/2
89…King Scott 12/1
Always thought White Squall had the potential for better things…yet seems a perpetual ‘placer’. Ligeti and Giro Jet have good current form, tricky race.

Race 8 MDN 1600m
74…Nick of Time 12/1
70…Atlas Grove 10/1
70…Border Patrol 33/1
70…Hobb’s Flight 10/1
69…Sir Swarovski 15/10
64…Sengwa 8/1
Crystal clear that the 15/10 about Sir Swarovski is not ‘sparkling’, even though this is a ‘weak’ field. Nick of Time looks good value (ignore lto) and also Border Patrol, whilst Sengwa looks interesting in a race that has upset potential.

BONUS R2! lol as before, comment, disagree, add etc as you can/want to hopefully help all...

1 PINTARI - Spies/Chambers. Won sand debut at Kimberley but next time out well beaten, debut on this c last time out was beaten a distance. Could surprise but a watching brief for me this time.
2 TRESCO - Tarry. Ok if uninspiring sand debut when beaten over 6l to be 6/8. Another one to watch rather than support this time round.
3 LADY JULIA - One win (maiden) in a 5/6 top 3 c record. Goes the distance for the first time. Recent sand runs have been supported by others winning or placing since. Bit of a ? regarding staying the trip but did seem to be running on better than Olympic Spring behind Miravar. Definite chance if stays.
4 ALOHA BAY - 0.75l adrift of Lady J behind Dragon Vein but is now 1.5kgs worse off. Similarly, 0.9l adrift of Olympic Spring behind Miss K and is now 1.5kgs worse off. Those stats though are perhaps nullified and more by the fact that Fradd is now up. Set pace from draw 16/16 last time and penultimate was probably too short. Two previous runs were decent and stays.
5 BEAUTIFUL DAWN - Appears well held by others. Would be a shock winner for me
6 OLYMPIC SPRING - 2 wins in 3 c/d runs. June 6th behind Miravar over 1450, OS was 2.75l behind LJ, now 2.5kgs better off. OS is probably better over 1600. Very consitent prior to latest and has an obvious chance, smaller field may help but would prefer PS back up!
7 TIZASMARTDOLLAR - Appears well held by others. Would be a shock winner for me

I see it between three and Fradd could make the difference... Aloha Bay x Lady Julia x Olympic Spring
