Bingo Monday 3rd June

After a Turffontein mauling hoping Kimberley will have one of its "be nice" days! :) Here's some long-winded, elementary analysis waffle which I will try to edit if appropriate should there be further scratchings...

R1 Of those with experience, the form of Duchess Catherine is the conundrum. Well supported from long odds on debut she raced creditably only for her second outing to be disappointing. Muzi is up and a market watch may be in order. The one that did improve from those same two outings is Fit To Flight. She returns to Bingo from an unsuccessful raid on the Vaal and is likely to be competitive. Difficult to overlook a Spies newcomer with the trainer having been in very good form recently. Debutant Sin Latigo has Brown up but regular jock Fanie Chambers takes the ride on Amoroso who has shown little on the turf but does have the benefit of racing experience and I think the most likely winner here.

R2 On paper, the winner should come from one of 5 with the form around La Flamme implying a close contest with 3 of the other 4 main protagonists running within a length of each other, albeit in different races. LF beat Liquid Ice by 0.25l but that was 4th run against debut. One of 5 Spies runners, Hypodomo de Gave beat LF 0.75l when both on debut and HdG returns to the sand for the first time since. Another Spies contender, Scarlet Moon finished 2.25l behind LF on debut but when re-opposing reversed the form to win by 0.25l. Chambers takes the ride on Hawksworth and this one returns from a successful raid to the Vaal having previously been beaten 2l by LI at Bingo. Hawksworth is the head scratcher! He seemed to win with something in hand at the Vaal with plenty of late support. For a horse beaten at Bingo it was something of a surprise. LI was a very short fav when they met before but Hworth is now 3gks better off and they come back in trip from 1200 to 1000, I think Hworth may have come on a lot from that meeting and be good enough to reverse the form. Hawksworth x Liquid Ice x Hypodromo de Gave

R3 Of the current field it looks to be a duel between Call For Change and Jetali. Having made a decent debut, and this run being the third after a rest, I strongly favour the former who seems to have improved for that rest. The third in that race has subsequently run a silver about 5 lengths clear of the remainder. Jetali has only had the one sand run and ran second to Zero South. The Cliffie Miller/MVR combination always deserves respect but that did look a particularly weak maiden. The one at a bigger price that is of a little interest is Forest Spectrum who finished 8.5ls behind CFC but was reported not striding out that day (sand debut) and may improve, represents the Visser stable with some weight off. Money has poured on Nippy Nathan since I originally wrote this, course debut for the Rugg/Brown combination.

R4 Another race where on paper it looks like there are few in with a realistic chance. My top 4 include 2 Sham horses and it will of course be important to read Dorrie's advices on the stable well-being. Assuming all is well and they are fit to compete, Waterloo Bay is entitled to be competitive on his silver behind Sher Dil last time out and has a good draw. My preference of the Sham runners though is sand debutant Mountain Rush who has a poor draw but has Gunter up and is by Captain Al so there is a very good chance he will take to the surface. Success has had some reasonable course runs with 5 places from 8 runs and must have a place chance again but my final vote goes to the Argentina bred sand debutant Turkestan representing the seemingly hot when they want to be Visser stable. Stablemate Born To Buck and Upanishads may compete for minor places should the Sham runners be scratched. Selection... Turkestan x Mountain Rush x Waterloo Bay

R5 Miesque's Force showed considerable improvement last time out when turning over the form with Tarteeb by 8ls despite only having a 2.5kg pull but, especially from the 10 box rather than the 1 box he had for his last outing, I suspect he will have to improve again to overturn the 12.25ls he was behind African Gladiator back in March. AG is not without a chance but does have a big weight to shoulder and might find Karlo's 2.5kg lighter weight for a 0.25l beating too much. Kahal's Secret and Desert Rat appear well held, the former by Pintari who was impressive on sand debut when winning by 12ls over this distance. That win was ladies only and, primarily, up against the boys this time she may well find it tougher but with the horse, stable and jockey seemingly all in good form recently I think she may well be the one they all have to beat. Pintari x Karlo x African Gladiator

R6 Plenty in with a shout but I think I'll stay with Code Red until he is beaten again after an impressive run of 4 consecutive course successes over 1200 and 1400. Metro Man gets 4.5kgs for a 2.25l defeat by CR over 1400 but may find the drop in trip against him. That said, he is 3/4 for top 3 finishes over c and d and he did seem to run below par from a very poor draw when beaten 12ls by CR. Kentucky Express, his Bingo debut is best ignored as reported not striding out that day, has run well at the Vaal sand and though he has only one place in 8 distance attempts he should not be entirely dismissed at big odds. Another with Vaal sand experience who is a definite threat is Prime Mover. Sherman B takes the ride and he knows the horse as it was previously trained by Erasmus. I am not sure he has been running at his best recently but a horse who has finished top 3 in more than 50% of his distance runs at Vaal sand should not be overlooked lightly at Bingo. The final Visser run is Memghar but I think his chances slim compared to his stable companions. El Cielo is not for me today either but has placed in 4/6 c and d efforts. If taking to the surface Matteo could be thereabouts but a 28 week rest and the widest draw are big enough deterrents for this one to be a watching brief for me.

R7 Not the strongest of fields and a big shock possible imo. Roads End represents the Visser/Yeni combination and must have a decent chance. Consistent if a little disappointing of late he made up for it with a win last time out when I wasn't on for the first time in four races! The concern is the step up in distance to 1200 from a 9 draw which though not the worst, could be better. The stable has also had a couple of runners recently perform well over 1200 when that distance had on previous form seemed too far. Both Cliffie Miller runners return from rests and may need the run and both have double digit draws, MVR rides He Who Dares which would be my preference of the two. He struggles to win though with just one win but 9 silvers in 12 top 3 finishes on his 17 course runs and is 6/8 for top 3 over c and d. White Squall brings some ok form from the Vaal sand. Drawn a little high in 10, he has 2 bronzes in 4 distance efforts but has often been drawn high and could easily be good enough to take the spoils here if ok on the surface and getting a decent run. Herecomesthebride could improve on his Vaal sand run if taking to the track with the blinkers removed. At a price watch out for one of the other Visser runners, River of Wealth, who makes his sand debut off a low weight and is by Spectrum. Selection... Roads End x White Squall x He Who Dares

R8 Newton Power comes from an inform stable but is too short in the market for me and I'll pass him by. The Visser pair must have e/w chances and I am hoping it is simply most suitable jockey for each horse as I prefer Trade Hall over Sweet Latte despite Muzi being on board the latter. Although SL is on a hat-trick, she has not beaten the strongest of fields and is up against the boys here. She is 6kgs worse off with TH than when finishing 0.6l behind her stablemate in the race won by Code Red over 1400 and again has the worse draw. Kingofmountain has some creditable course form and has been top 3 in 4/6 visits. However, he is 0/4 for top 3 over the distance and may not quite be able to finish off his effort here. Of the bigger priced ones, Grey Thunder appeals most. Well drawn and though he is coming out of the maidens he was consistently thereabouts at the finish and won most convincingly when finally breaking the maiden tag. Selection... Trade Hall x Sweet Latte x Kingofmountain

R9 On known form difficult to see past Tarteeb and Zuccheto and with the latter 1.5kgs better off at the weights I think the tables will be turned. Assuming all is well then Fort Knox could fill the third spot but is 0/3 top 3 at the distance and it could be that Fancy Some French at bigger odds is a better place bet. Anything else involved in the finish would be a "surprise" to me. Selection... Zuccheto x Tarteeb x Fancy Some French

Right, I'm off to find a couple of sturdy matchsticks, make a cup of very strong coffee and put my feet up nursing my Turf wounds ;)

Be(s)t of luck to all (tu)

race 8...fancy a bit of Grey Thunder who won well over 1400m...first run out the maidens is a concern but Sher Dil went and boosted that form by coming out and winning by 3.25l over today's distance...definitely a stronger field. cant get hurt at 20/1
