I know lots of assistants with blocks of flats and Ferraris.

Also never wanted to comment.

I agree with you Madji................it was taken "too" literally.
I also agree fully with Titch.
If i was an owner, I would need to get "on" first.

There are more than a dozen stables where the assistant is more clued up than the trainer......won't mention that some are getting a decent cut of early claims when they are on the money.......:)-D

This thread is like a fairly monotonous merry-go-round lol

I generally agree with Magi and to an extent Titch but there is a big difference between the information I think you refer to Titch ie that which implies a horse will win as opposed to general info which implies, for example, a hot fav might not win and should not be the price it is.

With regard to Agra's comment, I have repeatedly (merry-go-round lol) said that I have no problem with owners getting the "first" price. But, let them take that early price, not wait and wait and let everyone punt on a different horse just so they get 14s rather than 10s or whatever, I feel that is thieving from punters. Back it opening price and then tell the world and then we can make the decision as to whether or not it is value. I am not an owner's plaything and ultimately it is our money they win and a lot of people seem to forget that. There is a lot of chat about an owner pays for this and that etc... well, maybe so, but actually if they withhold info and then back a horse that wins it is actually us who are paying "for this and that" etc!

Easy is right imo, it may not affect what we do but, if we have access to all information, at least we would feel that we are making an informed decision based on as near-as-damn-it a complete picture... rather than... not finding out until after a race that the 8/11 fav was actually a donkey in a horse suit with three legs who has not eaten for 2 months and has been smoking 60 a day since its last run!! Any decent owner would surely agree.

Hi Englander

I understand your frustrations.

What would you do , as an owner, if you were on a good thing.
Would you take 2/1 or 5/1.
Remember in any given race, there are more than 1 trainer that may think that he/she can win it.
That is why you can have a claim (or 2) for more than one horse in a particular race.

Also it is impossible to say which is the better horse in the race. The respective claims does not help much.

To get back to your question, I would not back a horse if i felt that the price was not right. I would wait and see what the market forces dictate. I will only strike when I get a decent price.

Englander, I very seldom back shot priced horses on the nose. I rather make it a banker in my quartet and take it multiple times. There-in lies the value. If the horse/s that I am targeting is in the jackpot races, I make it a banker and take the bet multiple times but NEVER on the tote cos you will only dilute the payouts.

So, the 'owner' or 'trainer' have the 'power' and faark the poephol in the street? Then horse racing is a joke. I've learned that a long time ago.

I study form and don't care a continental what a trainer, jockey or owner has to say. I don't watch uso and don't listen to on-course presenters. All I wanted in the past from the 'syndicate' was the well being of the horse.....vaccinations, viruses in the stable etc... but even that info is limited to the 'owner' or trainer. Thanks to the Shams, Craig LouisG, & Pat, that post here and help us at least.

I look at a horse/stable performance 1,2,3 years back at the time of the year plus all the other important 'stuff' and off-course form lines and if it does not give me confidence, I just don't have a bet.

Thank heavens for sport betting.

?......we live in a truely remarkable age where it has never been as easy to get as much information than ever before.......yet we still gripe and bitch about being left out as men in the street......it is far better to be unblinkered and removed from the inner circle action so that one can see the bigger picture.......I am still highly amazed at the lengths that the under equipped racing hanger ons will go to.......in trying to get information from the coal face.......it is dirty up there .....no magic and tricks just plain gutfeel and experience that sees the best teams continuously hit those high yield seams.....8-)

want to know when horses are being vacinated .......when the assistant is on the course and the trainer is on holiday or playing golf/fishing ......:S

Ja just remember they don't owe us anything but so does we not owe them either and this is a blog so if Ruby or any other owner/trainer/ jockey or whom ever doesn't want to say anything so be it and then may they go well and cheers, God speed.
