They bet in the USA, UK ,on Betfair, anywhere they can get rebates. They have computers linked directly to the TAB, enabling them to use algorithms to isolate the "value" on exotic bets. On the Melbourne Cup a few years age they won $AUD 12 millon, in your money SR 100 million.Just think about it they turnover SR 19.2 billion per year, any wonder the Aust. Tax dept went after them...apparently they came to some confidential agreement and all is now 'kosher".

Maybe I am missing the plot but is there not a 25% take-out from any bet placed with the Totes? Surely There is 14% vat too pay ?

No VAT in Oz, we co-mingle with your pools, if you have a deduction rate is 25% they would get a larger rebate than a bet type that had a lesser deduction rate. In OZ the win is around 15% % so they might get 5% rebate but if the takeout rate over here is 20% on say, a quinella ( first two in any order ) they might get 10%, which in each case the TAB cops 10%.
