Tote Rules - your thoughts
12 years 6 months ago
I took a tote double at Clairwood last Sunday - Swell Party (who won) into Cherry Tripper (who eventually was scratched after an injury sustained in the parade ring) and unlike the bookies, the tote then forced my bet onto the tote favourite. Now,while I'm well aware that this is the case in all exotics etc, which I don't have a problem with - I do feel that this is totally unfair in the case of tote doubles. The reason I picked Cherry Tripper is because I made the favourite (who subsequently DIDN"T win) a brass. I have no doubt that this topic has been discussed on this forum before, but this is the first time it has happened to me. In this instance - I don't see a reason why Bookies rules shouldn't apply!
Your thoughts guys???
P.s - how are punters going to help the tote pools grow, when we are subjected to these rules? Or am I being too harsh on the tote?

That would be the right way to go..however there is a prob, unlike the bookmaker who lays fixed odds the tote would be unable to payout a bet "after the fact" ie if a horse is scratched at the start after the previous race has paid out...should the first leg pays R5.00 for a win and there are say 10,000 doubles on the scratched horse then the win div would have been different..they did sort that prob out when they introduced the all to come bet on the tote as opposed to the double,in that bet if your first leg wins and the 2nd is scratched your bet will be paid as the bet is decided by the dividend of the first leg

Guess that's why its better to stick to Bookies then...

The tote is about the takeout from the pool. If they don't include your bet somehow, they lose out.

considering the amount of unclaimed tickets due to scratchings losing tickets etc and also that they go down to the lower payout ie if payout is 2.27 they will lower it to 2,2 maybe its time to take the knock on this instance and payout on the first leg of the double...keep yr customer happy...the customer is the one who puts his money on phumgold he is the one who pays yr salaries in case you didnt know

That would open the door to HUGE problems...If someone had say 2 runners 1 in the 1st and 1 in the 2nd races takes the double and and then does not back it outright on the tote, then scratches the 2nd race runner ....it would only be a matter of time till this was done

titch the tote double pools are very small and if a punter took 100 dbles and the first leg arrived paying 2r on the tote and the 2nd leg is scr then pay the punter out 200r....do the bookies replace any leg of a multiple with a tote or bookies fav?...no they dont...KEEP YOUR CUSTOMER HAPPY
