A thought that crossed my mind yesterday .....at least once a month there used to be a race, at plate conditions, made for Hear the Drums................those races no longer seem to be on the programme as another horse would now surely be dominating them,as a handicap certainty!

Greg you right about that one, broke his maiden and ran 4th in two starts in windy city P.E. I think Face North that won the Cape Guineas years ago beating Pas de Qua in head bobbing duel also came from windy city. Was trained by V.Marshall.

@Ziets
If you have proof of rigging races
Please prove it.

Jocks lose their cool when taken off a ride that wins or suffers interference
Most jocks have never worked the horses they are riding
Some jocks don't speak to each other
Some trainers don't speak to each other
Most jocks don't speak to certain trainers
Some trainers don't speak to certain owners that they have lost
Some owners don't want certain jocks riding
Every month the trainers play musical chairs with the jocks
Other trainers like to give local riders a chance even though another jock flys in (eg Shams 4 wins over last 2 meetings)
Sick, lame, lazy + bleeder horses
Most travel jocks wake at 4am + home at 11pm if flights aren't delayed
Smith in the Wet, Greef in the Dry, Sham + Snaith come well with new or rested stock and all stables run through a "cycle", that's where Formgrids is so good.
Its the only Centre where you see jocks pushing 800m from the finish every meeting
Pumping winds and unpredictable weather with unruly starts.
These are just some of the things to take into account when studying all the other variables that go with Racing and Form study

I would love to be riding in rigged races...
It would mean I wouldn't have to sell my Coupe that I bought when I got back from Dubai
And every jockey and trainer would be driving Ferraris + Lambos
The racetracks would have the best facilities in the country

It would also mean stables like the Shams could spend Top Dollar at the sales + not buy package deals from owners/trainers in other centres where the horses were battling

Everything chippy says is 1000000% correct (we agree alot lately)

BUT

i am sure selling the coupe has to do with babies and car seats and not finances

@ CHIPPY -- Very interesting post (tu)

@ Ziets -- Agree with you, some crazy results / payouts etc and nothing pisses me off more than a horse winning when it has absolutely no recent form whatsoever to justify the sudden improvement. That's when you say WTF am I studying form for. But that is racing and will always happen from time to time. One thing I avoid, is playing when the track conditions are not ideal from a '' going '' point of view. It's hard enough to pick a winner without that. But at the end of the day IMHO, I think there are just too many, far too many, horses in circulation and 90 % of them in the same very moderate class. In my opinion then, it stands to reason that if you have upwards of 11 / 12 ' soupmeats ' chasing one another in a race, anything can happen. No doubt I could be wrong, I am certainly no expert that's for sure, but I've been punting for many years now and it seems to me that it has become much more difficult to pick a winner through form study than it used to be. Too much racing too much mediocrity ? Who knows ? :S

I have found this most interesting.

I think we are all more or less on the same par about PE. Why have I always known it as 'robbery park' since Bloem closed down?

I suppose you can equate racing in PE to a golf handicap. Why, when you are lying 3 on the green and your betterball partner makes a 4, must you also take a 4? If horse A is 10 lengths behind with 200m to go, and can finish 6th at best, try to finish 6th? Rather cruise in 10 lengths behind and get a better price next time!

Another point: How often do you see George Uren being interviewed when a 14/1 or 25/1 wins. He ALWAYS says he has been warning everybody that this horse will win soon. How does he know that? Come on, guys tell me.....

This is not criticism, but my perspective.

There are good horses in PE. If they started their careers in KZN, CT or TVL, they would be superstars. Just looks like the PE trainiers or owners do not want to expose their horses in bigger centres. I'm not punting Corne Spies, but he is not afraid to take his horses to big centres. He has done very well for a small trainer in big centres, especially when he has always been labelled as a sand specialist
