CLAIRWOOD- SAT. 22/09/12- OUCH!!!
12 years 8 months ago
I see the meeting at Clairwood on Saturday was a real 'Dog Fest', is anyone winning anything on these sorts of meetings, which seem to have been very prevalent during our long, wet, miserable Winter!?
If you haven't looked to closely or were too scared here are some howlers from this 10 race meeting:
- 2 favourites out of 10 win! Not a train smash some of you more optimistic punters might say, but believe me the second or third faves weren't winning either if you see some of the other WIN dividends: (R15, R11, R92, R18, R22, R44 etc..?)
- Three Pick-3 carry overs?
- A couple of QT carry overs?
- A R30k, two R68k and a R161k Quartets!?
- JP- R27,900
- PA- R4,049
- P6- R290,432
- etc, etc...
Sympathies for anyone who 'took a bath' on the day, I stayed away, thank goodness!
Now where's that guy that once said 'I must stop rubbishing the industry' or 'I'm negative'?
Give me a break buddy, you wanna tell me (us) you're collecting on local RACING at the moment?
Somehow I think NOT, but if you are, God/Mohammed bless you and please send some of it our way..?

Hi SMALL PUNTER
I suppose it is a matter of conjecture. I studied the form and stratergised the card, played the PA for R81, caught it twice and won R8098. When looking at the FORM to me Balse 12/10, Swift And Strong 33/10 and Sunshine Rock 11/10 were stand out place prospets for the PA and then I choose 3 horses in each of the other 4 legs. I won it twice and picked up R8098 for the effort I put in. You ask for some of it to be passed your way which I did, check the posts. Also there are other Clanners that post their fancies/info, with no hidden agenda, on this site which I am thankful for and so should you. I am a winner overall, and not only this Winter, as I make the effort to study the form and play my fancies without any external influence, not asking for any freebies. Of course I do not win every bet I take but I can afford to lose my stake. There is no other game for me but Horse Racing.
I do not know who said you are rubbishing Horse Racing and that you are Negative but you have once AGAIN just proved him/her RIGHT. For sucks fake SMALL PUNTER you ARE NEGATIVE and DEROGATIVE with your posts. Do you expect every Bookie/Tote favourite to win or to run a place in every race, look for the false favourires.
IMVHO Small Punter you need to learn what wagering is all about as in any 'Sports Betting' there are UPSETS, or are all Sports 'Dog Fests' just because you expect all favourtires to win. If you cannot take the heat stay out of the kitchen.

Like Titch said, well done on the win fogwils! R8098- I could do with some of that...
Have to disagree with 'derogatory' though!
'Negative', perhaps, yes I am at the moment, and have admitted it, cos I cannot catch a thing in recent times. I consider myself as one who does understand sport/horse wagering (and have mostly always ENJOYED it) and have also had my share of luck over the years, but the recent spell has seemed more difficult to me with the 'downs' far outweighing the 'ups'!
You would've seen in my postings that I am passionate about racing and am almost don't like 'airing my dirty laundry' (i.e. bad luck), but it's one way of letting of steam old chap and if you take a walk into most Totes you'll notice that I am FAR from alone!
In one of my early posts I think I mentioned that the 'armchair' punters in the luxuries of their front rooms might not be aware of the regular Joes in the bookies, or rather NOT in the bookies anymore... It is different now, is all I am saying!
Take care!

I agree with Titch that the blog is naive insofar as it measures prices/payouts, not form, and have posted as such, but is there anybody who believes that our industry is adequately regulated?
In this respect he may well have a point!
In response to the "horses aren't machines" defense to everything in racing ,it is fascinating that, in Mauritius, where they are racing mainly SA discards,on a MR basis only ,these same "non-machines" certainly are generally far more consistent and also fascinating that they have less scratchings in a SEASON than we have on a WEEK-END..........are stables more professional at ensuring the soundness and conditioning of the horses before they are entered to race?.................or does the draconian regulation, including isolation of horses scheduled to race, play a part in a more professional approach to racing in general?
It surely can't be a coincidence that racing seems to be thriving wherever regulation is firmly applied?
(and as normal there will be many reasons WHY WE CAN"T.......reasons to not do things is what we good at............it requires no thought or effort.)
The insurance industry is being crippled by over-regulation by government and only has itself to blame........it never bothered to reasonably regulate itself.........interesting to see if racing ends up in the same boat!
