obviously the races for the bi pot will be determined by the operator .

Fractional betting was designed to let everyone have a chance to win money. IMO it is the single best thing that any operator has ever done for any punter in ANY country!!!

Without it South African horse racing would have gone the way of the Dodo by now!!!

To suggest that a 1% line Pick 6 should be abolished and capped by min 10% is ridiculous and don't think the operators are that dumb to consider it even.With my example of 5x4x5x4x5x10 the perm will cost a punter 20,000comb@ R1.00 = R20,000- Full bet.

1% of that bet taken will cost the punter R200-. To suggest a min cap of 10% will amount to R2000- and that will be the end of that?

In the past scenario where the .10 cent unit was operative= 5X4X5X4X5X10 the perm costs 20,000comb@ R0-10cents =R2000-FULL BET.

It was capped at a min 10% so your perm cost R200- for your MIN 10%

Now compare payouts= If yr perm arrives at the R1-00 UNIT scenario at present and pays R100,000- you collect Full bet that amount.For your 1% bet which cost you R200- you will collect R1,000-

Now if we use the R0-10cent unit and the payout was R100,000- you collect that amount for your R2000- outlay ONLY!!
Likewise your MIN 10% perm oulay which cost you R200- you collect R10,000-

The difference is substantial if u understand the Maths.

I'm not sure you understand fractional betting? Or am I misunderstanding your point?

i think Mike wants to be in a position where in the event of a carryover and say there is a 10% winner , he could scoop the whole pool for the same outlay of his 10 % bet( which presently wins him only 10% of the carry over pool )as opposed to spending 10 times the money to scoop the pool .

I was not flogging Fractional Betting and concur that it was a very inspirational intervention which did do a lot of good for Horse Racing. All I wanted to point out is that IMO it should be capped to a minimum of 10%. The BIG punters will then not take three fields with many Horses in the other 3 Legs as the 10% min cost could become astronomical resulting in less combinations being taken and therefore higher payouts. This will result in more people chasing these payouts with increased pool sizes.

Money (payouts) is what is being chased, just look at all the advertising fuss made about carry overs.

Once again there is no difference. This fight was had by all the big punters with the general manager of TAB Transvaal at the time of fractional betting going live.

All of them had exactly the same idea, but in reverse. They said, all the smaller punters will eat away at their winnings because more people will share in the payouts........

As you can easily see that made no sense whatsoever. There is no dilution of the pools, in fact the pools became stronger because of the extra influx of money. If you have 100% of the only ticket of the P6, you get paid 100%. That has never changed.

You are able to take as much or as little of the cost of your ticket. Making it a 10 cent line compared with a R1 line should (and IMO doesn't) make any difference.

It isn't about the combinations in the ticket but rather the amount you wish to spend. You can take 6 fields and pay the 10% of the cost for 10% or you can make it a 10 cent line and pay 100% of the cost.

Perhaps I'm missing something as I certainly am no expert but to me, there is no difference!

I agree it is all only proportional. Keep the unit at R1 with a min of 10 % which is the equivalent of a 10 cent line and not 1 % which is the equivalent of a 1 cent line. IMO punters budget what they will be spend on a bet and for a R100 P6 at 1% they can take 10 000 combinations but at a min of 10% they can only take 1 000 combinations for the same outlay.

Anyway only my thoughts to increase payouts and Pool sizes. I cannot catch a P6 even at 1%.
