A Story to drive the purists mad.

I have to tell this story to have the "wins don't count" chaps, tearing their hair out.......lol
I got a call from a gambling mate who was on his way home from golf ,a bit worse for wear, but very cheerful having just caught a treble @ R200,000/R270...Tajmeel x Devonella x Baranova.
We discussed it and I was saying that I could see the first 2 (both were included in my exotics) but when I told him that I could not have found Baranova, not even in my first 8, he calmly pointed out that it was a 3xwinner against an entire field of 1xwinners
A wonderful example of how many ways there are to win if it happens to be your day :)-D

I was pointing out the irony of his win...............when someone has had that kind of win ,it is not the time to point out that :
a)it was 6 yrs old
b)had 26 runs to win 3 races
c)had 5 previous runs with similar profile and hadn't run a place
suddenly none of that mattered...............lol

Well Done to your friend Rob. Which bookie took that bet cause can't recall if money came for anyone of them. Surely a bet like that even after the first two won would have shortened Baranova drastically.

I didn't ask but I know he bets with Lance Michael who is fearless,so I would guess it was with him!

(The stable companion was backed, but Baranove shortened as well which seemed a bit strange at the time.......must be why!)

...stick to a formula that works.....sounds like your mate is old school and even though all this MR hoodoo....the old timers still look at no of wins rather than MR.....suppose the odds shorting was a bookie laying off.....the bookie must be sour though and your mate is still some what of a purist....;)

Muhti, whilst I believe in true handicapping and use it,I also do believe that there is also a winning mentality in a horse that counts a lot (a bit like BMT).There are horses that will run as close in a listed race as in a maiden. That horse Cheerful News is a good example ..........ran 1 length to Pierre Jourdan ,at level weights,in the maidens. When PJ was a 6 time winner,CN was still a maiden ..........eventually won in Mauritius and is a different horse now ..........has learnt to win! (MdK also referred to it in interviews)
Another factor to add to handicapping,is the fact that some stables reproduce form far more consistently than others....................there are some stables who can't be relied on no matter how strong the form appears (ie. include but don't bank)
You need to be more than a 1 ball juggler when analysing form to have any hope of making a profit..............lol.
