Where's my mate Englander today? Also like a of bit Mythical Palace. down at the weights and 3rd run after a rest, cherry ripe. Welcome to my mate from work, Stix, his first post above. A relative new comer to the game (I'm a bad influence, lol), he has been learning to study form and has picked a few winners recently, also in Flamingo Park!! WTF!!!

I think I'm right in that this is the shortest day of the year in the Southern Hemisphere - but it's not going to feel like that at the Vaal today with the looonnngg 40 minute wait between races - the good news is that from tomorrow we can say 'spring is on it's way'. With one possible banker (Mr Alfonso) scratched, the card does look a lot more difficult - some thoughts:
R2: Tricky start to the PA - Lady's Desire and Cold Approach unproven on the sand, Cerise Silk ran in a really weak field last time, so I agree with THH that Free to Fly could at least place - showed good speed over further last time on the sand (before fading late) and gets blinkers fitted - could be a good idea to load up in the PA
R3: Conditions plate where Kalaam does stand out - ran 4th behind her main danger Sapphire Ring last year in her only try on the sand but is 4 kg's better off, so could turn the tables; Raise the Bar probably 3rd best with Ugly Betty; the others (including Laurel Canyon:() imo have some work to do to feature at these weights
R4: Mabuko Spirit loves the sand, has gone up a few points again, but should be right there; none of the others could really be called no-hopers - so maybe if you're trying to beat MS, take the field
R5: Does not look easy, Dual Alliance the obvious one, but I think Cannon and Cordite is upset material at these weights; Roll Call has not placed from 2 starts over this trip, so Berrymiller should have his beating imo, others to consider are Jetson (unknown quantity on the sand)and Holy Smokey who may improve in his 2nd start after a rest
R6; Formation surprised me by the way she won her last start and got whacked another 8 points by the handicapper, so may have her work cut out to keep the inconsistent Zebulon (who got only 6 points for an equally impressive last win) at bay; Craig's pair needs inclusion in the P6 as well imo, just in case one or both revel in the sand - not sure about Fort Lodge in this class, while Kruger Gold (although 2,5 kg's better off with Z) may not stay - the other 3 are out at the weights on official ratings but stranger things have happened on the Vaal sand, so again if you're looking for that big payout in the P6, this is another leg to take the field
R7: Another race where quite a few look to have decent chances - not much between American Gangster, Kudos and Alamein, while Key Word may be looking for this trip - Ushkadel from the in-form Moffat stable improved last time with blinkers and has placed in 3 out of 4 starts over this trip - not sure what to make of The Western, but even that 9 length maiden win is probably not good enough in this field
R8: Jolly Rhubino, Sizzling Guy and Time to Fly stand out among the raced runners; the unraced juvenile Jet City has found market support, so could be considered for the PA; for a real lunatic selection maybe consider Cool Tempest who tries the sand for the first time
Enjoy (tu)

LOL am here bud
Also like Alamein (will do The Western e/w as well), Mythical Palace was put down for the 1 box too, also think Roll Call in the 5th is possibly worth a bet. Vaal sand has been a nightmare last couple of meetings though so very little confidence.
A hopeful idiots, v small win doubles and e/w trebles n upwards...
R2 7 Free to Fly (if you can get more than 25/1 I think that is a huge e/w price in this field, managed to get on at 50s)
R3 6 Ugly Betty
R4 8 Fort William
R6 6 Kruger Gold
R7 8 The Western
As a "fun" start to the day, a small e/w double Nautical Adventure (R1) and Free to Fly (R2)
Best of luck all (tu)
