What happens to racehorses in Hong Kong...

When they retire?
Anyone know, just wondered as i read there was no breeding industry and most of their imports are Geldings anyway.
So with land at a premium and so expensive what happens to the racehorses when they retire, shipped out?

I read a disturbing article once whereby horses which never make it to the track, ex or useless racehorses in the USA get sent to either Canada or Mexico where they are butchered for meat. Apparently slaughtering of horses in the USA is not allowed so they ship them over the border to make it someone else's problem. Typical.
Bearing in mind that only a fraction of all horses born in the USA ever manage to run a race - there must a huge excess of horses, with everyone trying desperately to breed the ''perfect'' racehorse.
I don'ty have anything against Keith Ho, Chinese people or anyone from the Far East for that matter but I wouldn't be surprised if equine chow mein or pony spring rolls landed up on some guys plate in North Korea.
Food for thought...

Nothing too sick about it actually, it's just the law of the jungle. You don't think for one second that a cheap steak and kidney pie or a tin of dog food actually contain top class meat, do you ??? (

I'm probably gonna get it from most of you for saying this but here goes....
Personally I don't like the taste of horse flesh but I would rather see the horse been slaughtered than switching over to animal planet and seeing the SPCA trying to rescue abused horses.
